Divinity Original Sin

Thanks, I ended up with main as a Warrior and second one as a pure mage breed. We'll see how it goes with those. I did pick pet pal though, but is lockpicking that important considering you seem to be able to break any locked chests/doors ?

Breaking locks and doors can take forever and is not possible on all locks. it kinda depends if you are like me (a loot w***e) or not! luck is very useful as it increases the chance of finding items when looking in any storage thing like barrels and crates.

Ahh right. I found a pair of boots with +1 luck on so bought those, see if it helps a little. :)

Another question. The spare backpack you have in your inventory, I noticed if you put stuff in it it wont show when trading with people. So what can you store in it, just possible stuff for making stuff if I can figure out what one need to save ? :p

as far as i remember you stick stuff in there you need to keep but dont want to see. makes things a bit tidier. i dont normally put anything in it.

I usually end up with a couple of backpacks / pouches which I'll put various different items in like potions, scrolls, grenades etc and then drag the backpack to the hotbar, just makes it easier for me to manage and keep things on one action bar if I can.

Also good for hiding tasty loot from people on multiplayer :D

There's a mod that gives you pet pal so you don't have to use up a perk for it.

Considering the whole other Side of the game world opened up - Animals all have their own society and converse with you like normal people. Pet Pal really should be included automatically!

So you can use the backpacks/pouches from the hotbar when in fights too ??

I did not know that but it's ok, I don't mind. Although, do you know if the Source Hunters DLC by chance is possible to mod into the game ?? It is missing in the version on GOG which I have and seem to been for a couple years. :(

No idea I'm afraid.

Not missing much by the looks of it,

You can indeed use them from the action bar! It just pops up in a little window just as it would if you opened it through the inventory screen and you can use the items as normal - and it doesn't use any AP to open the backpack either. Certainly made my life easier keeping track of potions and scrolls!

True. Was more for giggles really! :p

Sweet! I'll have a look at that next time I play it again. Unfotunatelly have to work today so no play time :(

I bought this a few months back and lasted about 8 hours before hitting a brick wall with difficulty. I wanted to like it as I love getting my teeth stick into games like this but just found it too hard! Is there anything I could read/watch that would ease me back into with a better understanding of the combat mechanics?

There are numerous guides you can follow online for builds etc. How far into the game were you? The start of the game can be very unforgiving if you're not too sure on what to do and how to do it.

General consensus I would say for new starts is to focus on one type of damage: physical or magical. Apart from towards the end of the first area, every big fight has people with more armour than you - splitting your damage between both schools makes your life a little harder. It also depends on your party size; if you have a party of four you can certainly get by with two physical and two magic damage dealers, but you would get through people a lot quicker with four physical damage dealers (for example).

Interrupts are also crucial in the early game I find. Again, you can find interrupts through both magic and physical; the only thing to be mindful of is that magic spells can be resisted to lessen damage (right click - examine on enemies) whereas physical damage by and large isn't. It's also relatively important to make sure your accuracy is 100% where possible - one missed hit or ability could make or break a fight.

My memory may be failing me here, but my recollection was that in the first Original Sin game you didn't have to worry too much about split damage since enemies didn't have separate physical and magical armour, which is a mechanic that emerged in the sequel. Plus there are lots of great CC options in the spell trees.

In the original I found it went well with my party of two mages, a tank and a marksman. Everyone splashed at least a single point into witchcraft, scoundrel, aero and hydro for utility/mobility, summons, heals and buffs/debuffs. Mages were split between my main, who went heavy into geo, hydro, pyro and witchcraft (5-4-4-4), and Jahan who took hydro to 5, and also went lvl 4 in aero and pyro. The CC, damage and mobility options you get from this were enough to melt or lockdown pretty much everything and keep my party alive. I didn't worry about split damage in this one (the sequel was a different matter, though, and I went heavily physical with all the damage and CC in that one).

Soo.. Liking the game but for some reason I can not find a certain spell. Suppose to be a Novice spell, Summon Undead Warrior, but the woman upstairs at the Inn do not have it, she has the other 5 Novice and 3 Adept spells but not that one. Does anyone know where you can get it, or is it not available until later in the game ??

Also, I found this interesting beer, although found it a tad to expensive for my taste at the moment. :p Has anyone bought and used it and if so, is it worth the money ?
