I am not normally a clumsy person, but a friend of mine bought a new flat in london and he wanted a hand stripping wall paper and removing the radiators. I bought a few bits from B&Q the night before I was going, including a large flat filling knife which had that annoying blister packaging around it. I was living with my in laws at the time so the only knife I had to hand was my 'mini champ' swiss army knife.
I ended up cutting the packaging with the blade towards me for some stupid reason and slipped, the little 1" knife went straight in to my hand next to my thumbs knuckle. It did not hurt but I couldn't get it to stop bleeding. I showed it to my mother in law (she is a GP), she drove me straight to the hospital where I had to wait for about 4 hours to get some stitches. I made it to London the next day to do the DIY over two days, then got on the plane to Thailand where it got infected and hurt like hell
