DJs: How do you deal with it when...

Hard man, assaulting someone for doing that .

Did you read my story?
I asked for help from the staff and Landlord all night and then gave out 3 final warnings and only then did the Landlord act upon it.
I'm there to perform, to give 100% to the audience and I ALWAYS deliver and that's why we have a great following.
I have a bloke standing 10 foot away from me who is mouthing obscenities at me for over 90 minutes and doing rude signs at me with his mates telling him to stop.
I'm human, I can only take so much and I had to apologise to the audience constantly for not giving 100% and kept asking for help (and not Help by the Beatles).
Not only that, he was 20 and I'm 54 and he was twice as big as me because I'm a dwarf.
What a pussy to pick on an old bloke.
Well it was the first time in 42 years of gigging so I haven't done too bad.

For Truth he sounds far more reasonable than me or countless other people I know. Dimples a nice guy, We all know that & we All make mistakes.
I think Moses should read his own tablets.

Of course I read it. I still think you were unreasonable.

I better thing to do would have been to go and chill at the bar with your 'band'... I'm sure the landlord would have sorted it out quickly.

Missed that bit out - we did stop for 10 minutes but nothing happened so we had to go back because we didn't want to let our following down.
You talk like this is the first time I've had to deal with idiots, I deal with them every gig but this was exceptional.

And there's me thinking all you did was fight screaming women off & pull wet knickers off your Gee-tarrrrrrrrr. :D

You didn't say that in the explanation I've quoted above...

Does it matter? - I still assaulted a bloke half my age and I don't feel proud about it.
I was equally shocked there were at least 50 Bikers in the pub and none of them realised what was going on however 2 of them did pull me off him and said get back to the stage and they'll sort it.
And no, he wasn't kicked.

Had some old woman begging us to play rolling stones at a wedding once, incredibly annoying  In that situation I think we would have only listened to the bride, since she was enjoying herself (and paying us)

Just found out in playing room one just after the headliner.

Good thing I bought a t-shirt saying:

I'm the dj, not a jukebox. Deal with it.

Should help somewhat :)

So you don't play the obligatory wedding '30 minute Motown spot', '30 minute Rock N Roll spot' and any old tosh during the buffet :D
One of my main gripes are people who have booked a a disco and then moan about what they played after the night as finished.
It is your money, you tell the DJ what you want and even if you don't want certain types of lights etc and if they are not willing you find somebody else.
There is no excuse for a bad wedding/engagement/birthday disco unless they have catalogue equipment that doesn't cut it.

It amazes me that people pay DJs at all when its mostly all automated. They should spend the money on a decent speaker system instead as most pubs/clubs have awful distorted sound. Then just queue up a few playlists.

Hmm, I remember posting a similar thread a few years ago about modern DJ's and I was taken to the cleaners.
I was even invited to a locals house where he took me through what he did on his decks and CD gizmo and it made me change my mind.
He showed me how the tracks had to perfectly line up in BPM and then overdubbing different music & effects on top and I was quite impressed that I was looking at a new instrument.
If on the other hand you are talking about DJ's who just stick tracks on then you might as well as have a jukebox with a decent PA system.

I know you get people who are interested in this kind of thing and appreciate it but most places full of drunk people (ie Weatherspoons etc.) who want to hear something they heard on the radio last night, it seems like a waste to me.

Exactly. For example I was at fabric on Friday night, and the DJs there were stunning. Incredible mixing :)

However I don't understand why people would want an rnb dj. Most of the songs don't mix together properly, and it's the same stuff you can hear by turning on your radio.

However I go to clubs to hear new music, and hear it very loud whilst raving like a nutcase all night :) and that is what my particular dj set is about. New electronic music with bass that will rip your face off and volume to shred what's left :D

It really grinds me gears when people passes r'n'b off as 'dance' music.
Some purple stuff like Joker, Gemmy and Rustie do some stuff which is sort of a blend of R'n'B and dubstep. Sounds rather good thru a decent system, and I would class it as dance music. Then again dance music is a rather subjective tearm anyway, you could dance to almost any kind of music if you tried. ;)

I played last night,i don't really get asked much thank god, depends on the venue DJ booth if it's accessible by the crowd to bother you all the time,i don't do requests anyway as i am booked for a type of music i only play(Tech House).

The one time i do remember getting asked a few years ago was have you anything with words in lol,aye i said **** ***

While I wish I could afford cdjs, I don't think I'd get them. Being able to have all your music on a laptop and controller is so much easier than having a ton of CDs :)

CDJ 2000,just use an sd card or mem stick using pioneer rekordbox, thats the way i play now and it saves carting round bags of gear.
