DK2 and Nvidia

Think Gregster and me had the same reaction lol. Back to Dino island is great but short. Glad you're enjoying it!

Haha, I actually said it as well and I was the only one in my house :D I am seriously impressed and getting used to leaning in to read things in ED.

cool.

Might have to see if i can borrow the one from work at some point.

Well worth a borrow bud. At least then you can have some play time alone and see for yourself what you think.

4K per eye is where VR will start getting really good. But the tech isn't quite there (either GPU, cables/bandwidth/wireless, or panels). I mean, you'll have to somehow render 4K per eye, at over 100hz stable. So, there are a few generation gaps, or maybe some trick rendering (foveated rendering and super slick compression).

CV1, IIRC will be 1200x1080 per eye (just like the Steam Vive), not quite full HD, not 1440p, a bit better than DK2, but with better quality optics and panels.

NVIDIA and AMD are working on drivers to boost VR with dual GPUs. One GPU per panel (not like XFire / SLI), and with the aim of reducing latency.

So yeah, good times. I'll be also a CV1 buyer. :)

I have been glued to ED pretty much and the immersion is fantastic but agreed Oliver and I also think you need at least 2560x1440 per eye. Edges are quite bad at the DK2 res and whilst it is massively fluid and everything works as it should, I just know with a better res, I wouldn't take it off, so maybe not a bad thing. My eyes do hurt a bit but I put that down to the length of time I have played and the lower res quality and could see with a better image, you could spend far more time with it.

Overall, so far I am really pleased I bought it and for my needs, it is doing it's job. ED: Horizons was jaw droppingly good when flying through a canyon on a planet and landing/driving about in the SRV but HL2 made me feel a bit sick with how it didn't move correctly. Not sure if that was down to me not setting up properly or something else but not fussed.

Well, it isn't a big spend for the enjoyment it brings and wont be hard to shed even when the new one comes out.

I do regret not trying out Dying Light on the DK2 even if it wasn't designed for it and so has the view fixed to your mouse movement. Imagine the terror of running from those night zombies and trying to escape by jumping between the buildings only to take a glimpse of the long drop and hordes below you. The game goes from a zombie shooter to a free roam horror!

That does sound good, I couldn't afford to buy one just to buy again soon after so I'll wait for the official release as I've always fancied it for racing titles (where it'll be like wearing your race helmet and along with some butt kickers and adjustable fans for wind simulation it could be a very good simulation, (can't afford hydraulics:()), I watched a video a year or so ago of one being used in a racing sim and that seemed great and I've wanted to try it ever since.
I never got 3d as it seemed like a fad where as this seems more like a natural evolution even though it won't be suited for everything.

I would assume they wear glasses and you wear this over the glasses.

I should eloborate.

Myself as an example. my left eye just see's shapes that are Very very Blurry.
Cant read anything with it as words merge into a mess...

I can kinda see the 3d effect in films, just no where close to what others can.
Although i cant sit through a full 3d film :( My right eye starts to hurt and i get a migraine!

The OR should work ok for me right?

If you can see 3D in 3D films albeit limited, it will be the same effect on the OR but I wouldn't advise it for you if you get migraines in truth. It is tough on my eyes and I have good 20/20 vision but I did play for several hours, which might have been a bit much for the first day and I need to get used to it a bit more.

Ok cool.

Hopefully they showcase the CV1 at next years Insomnia. Then i can decide :D

Optics in the CV1 are a whole lot better from most impressions. Much bigger 'sweetspot' in the clarity. Resolution is also improved, but not by miles. The screen door is also supposed to be far less noticeable due to the optics and larger pixel fill.

It'll be a good improvement, but dont expect it to suddenly look like your monitor in terms of clarity.

Yea, the 3D works a bit differently in VR than with 3D glasses. It is generally set up to more or less mimic how stereoscopy works for us in real life rather than the polarized trick that 3d glasses use.

It should, for the most part, be more comfortable for your eyes. And if you can see 3d in real life(meaning most or all depth cues register for you as you normally look around), you should be fine in VR. Even somebody with one eye will generally have the same ability to see depth in VR as they would in real life.

Eye strain *can* occur for some, but it's often caused by misaligned IPD setting(distance between your pupils need to be matched by the optics/display) plus there is still *some* level of vergence accomodation conflict that still occurs, but it's not as bad as with 3d glasses.

That said, everybody is different and if you have some peculiar optical 'problems', there's never any 100% guarantee everything will be fine for you.

I did see that demo and it does look good. ED is just incredible with VR and space games seem to really suit it and while I was meant to test so many games yesterday and see what was what, I found myself just hooked on ED, so it will need to be good to lure me away.

There is an App I tried this morning and it is incredible. "Virtual Desktop" - I always stream my films to my TV's but this makes it like an IMAX that is in space and is totally incredible. It is like watching a massive curved screen whilst floating in space, it needs to be seen first hand to show how good it is and so long as your film is decent quality, the picture is pretty damned good.

Greg you had me at OMFG!

LOL :D

I must admit I cant wait for the commercial versions of the Vive and OR to become available. However, it will then be down to which one do we get/Which one is the best.

I just hope that the VR thread will be a little less fraught between Team Valve and Team Occulus.

Will anyone get both to compare, contrast and review.......?

LMFAO, I just downloaded a sample porn vid (for review purposes of course) and it actually really works lol. I was expecting something a little crap but nope, worked a treat. :D

Ive fancied one of these for ages now and I might pull the trigger after all. I was saving for the Predator x34 but I might pick one of these up in the meantime

Sorry guys but it is freakin awesome lol. From simple things like Titans of Space/Apollo 11 experience to ED/PCars and even watching films is incredible. I have mentioned the res and that is the downside but the immersion makes up for it in abundance.

:D
