DLSR for £500 (Must have good recording)

most DSLR's dont record more than 29 mins and 59 secs, if its 30 mins or up its classed as a video camera is they have higher tax prices (iirc)

Almost all DSLR's suffer with rolling shutter, even 5D's. 7D's etc. Its normal.

the 550d / 600d will give the best DSLR video quality for the price, better than the d5100. But how much better is your call. To me its enough to warrant going for the 550d/600d (they are almost identical), but i do video work and obsess about the last little bit of sharpness and resolution.

The d5100 has autofocus in video, which isnt vital for pro video, because thats normally manual focus, but for all other purposes its fun and useful, quite fast too.

If video quality and sharpness is your priority, the Lumix GH1 is the best bet. Get it hacked and it has much better sharpness and resolution than even a 7D.

but the GH1 isnt a DSLR, its a micro four thirds camera, much like my GF1.
You have fewer lenses and accessories as its a newer system, but its more compact and takes excellent video.

2nd the GH1 with custom it easily beats a lot of the hd camcorders.

Redsnapper tripods are about the best bang for buck out there.

Camera price buster is a good place to look for bodies and lenses.

EDIT: You will however struggle to beat Digital Rev on price since they're Hong Kong based.

EDITEDIT: What other accessories are you after.

With Digital Rev, I will not have to pay taxes and all that horrible jazz? - So just pay for the camera and shipping and all will be good? And what about the warranty? Is that something I should worry about? I don't really want to send it back to Hong Kong if it is faulty.

Not sure about accessories, maybe just memory cards, lenses or filters.

I appreciate the advice. :)

I've had my 550D for the last few days and it is absolutely incredible for video. From what I understand the 600D is pretty much identical (where it counts) bar the flip out screen. Playing back the 1080 24p footage on the big screen honestly just blows me away. It only gets better once you start playing about with different lenses.

I would highly recommend the 550d/600d and I honestly, perhaps through my naivety, cannot see how any other DSLR would deliver video that is superior by any margin. It is breathtaking.

Absolutely, I'm pleased to hear how happy you are with it :)

You can't get much better for your money. Even footage from a 5d mkii is quite indistinguishable from your cam. Happy filming mate :)

A few Canons will shoot up to 60FPS that can be used to almost completely cancel out rolling shutter issues, if it has an external mic input that that's always handy due to built in mic's generally being poor.
