DLSS 5 preview

Modded DLSS 5 still needs work, for me at least.

Tried it in only three games so far, but they all have problems.

Looks great in CP2077 but crashes after a short time.
Stalker 2 just won't lauanch.
FFX it causes the game to black screen before a battle for up to a minute, making the game unplayable and crashes at a certain point.

meh

I don't think anyone has it working mostly trouble free one way or another - it is very much in the proof of concept stage at this point.

Injected into games it is often not being supplied all the information from the game to make it work i.e. stuff like motion vectors and having to infer missing information, etc.

Thank you for beta testing. I had not got around to it yet. I will probably just wait now.

Exciting, but it still needs time. Maybe by end of the year.

I'm hoping it eventually enables us to turn off character enhancements and solely have the environment enhancements.
You can choose which materials to run it on, and adjust various parameters, it's in the docs they've showed. I just want to run the NR lighting on the ships in my game, without wasting GPU on the 80% of the screen space that won't benefit!

SC doesn't need DLSS5 IMO, the game is already beautiful and will continue to get better when they introduce RTGI, RT reflections etc....

I'm not so sure now.....

You seen this?

The weird thing is it doesn't make much difference in this game, its far more subtle than i've seen it in anything else yet and the result is IMO quite remarkable, its does not look like its redrawing Gillion Andersons face and ageing it 20 years, it looks like the original lighting is a bit over saturated and its turning it down a little.

I can see where the artist may have done this deliberately to make her 'Glow' more but other than that the lighting in both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 seems to be pretty accurate and its just making small tweaks, a lot of examples in the video, he's had a proper good look at it.

Only problem is in 4K with a 5080 he's gone from 100 FPS in Levski down to about 35

Notice the green light reflecting off the side of his face? it didn't really change that at all...

Edit: Its already running RTGI, you just don't know because you can't turn it off.... Its CIG's equivalent to Lumen. came in about 4.7 i think.

Just the lighting on it own... Subtle.

CP - seems very minimal changes
Squadron 42 - lighting looks a bit more dramatic, like they hired a new director of photography.

I saw an old NFS title with DLSS on/off comparison video it looked more impressive. Mostly due to delta of quality for an old game. CP and Squadron42 already look pretty good - harder to make it even better

Yeah... CP, SC and SQ42 are 3 games that share a commonality, photo realistic graphics, very very few games have that. its really difficult.

Which is perhaps where Nvidia's own examples fall down, take Hogwarts Legacy, good looking game in its own way but that engine is not producing photo realistic graphics, when you use an AI to repaint it that way it looks, well.... awful.

The mod(s) is/ are all over the place now. About 15 different builds on the Discord and it's getting a tad confusing. I'm waiting on Shortfuse (the main RenoDX guy) to tweak his to perfection as it's definitely the best all round for me so far.

I'd like one that combines DLSS 5 and proper MFG (not optiscaler).

Anyone tried this on a SNES emulator? Pilot Wings, F zero, SF2T etc?
It's not as transformative on really old stuff as you'd think. You can find vids of it used on PS1 stuff and it looks a bit weird due to the stiff animations.

It shines on games that are 5-10 years old, where they wanted realism but the tech wasn't there e.g. Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid

Yeah I switched to Optiscaler yesterday and liked the settings and got less GPU usage when capping to 60fps (instead of my usual 100+), but wanted to double that with framegen but it kept giving an error

You can do that already to an extent. There is a character mask slider and an environment slider.

I usually like both maxed out on most games except Jedi survivor I turn down the favmces a bit as they artifact a bit on full.

It's a nice little touch, Will be interesting to see how much nvidia increase performance over the next few months.
