Do AMD provide any benefit to the retail GPU segment.

Nvidia with their magical X86 CPUs. Oh wait, the contract happened because AMD was the only vendor that could provide an X86 CPU and decent dGPU. The only other company which was in the running is Intel. Plus Nvidia annoyed Nvidia over the original Xbox and ATI designed the first unified shader GPU for the XBox 360. It gets even worse when hardware based image reconstruction methods first happened on the AMD powered consoles, ie, Checkerboard rendering. Shows you how much PCMR is influenced by marketing even more than the console crowd!

This is worth watching too regarding Nintendo and the issues they will have with new hardware and the use of ARM64 and Nvidia.

The running joke there was Sony basically had to go hat in hand to Nvidia and ask them to come up with something for the ps3, prior to this the CELL was going to handle everything, cpu tasks, audio tasks and the graphics side of things, then the cocaine wore off and they realised it wasn't capable of doing what they thought so NVidia gave them the "rsx reality synthesizer" which was basically a custom 7800gtx.

The "what if" of if AMD went bankrupt and Sony had to use Nvidia:
"PS7 announcement
In a surprise move, Sony announced that the focus of the PS7 would be on exercise and co-operative having rather than leading edge graphics and sounds.
And after last year's purchase of Nintendo, Sony also emphasized how quiet and low power consuming the PS7 would be.
But Sony reassured gamers that while the emphasis had changed, PS7 would still be able to take advantage of 8K TV.
"While we now render all games at either 720P for traditional raster tiles, or 360P for RTX - two resolutions which were chosen consistency's sake* and the way they smoothly scale to other resolutions - the custom Tegra chip which Nvidia have designed for us, is able to utilise DLSS 8.0 to generate extra frames, scale the results to 8K with better than native+ quality, and also now come with an exclusive Dragon's Lair mode when the "player" is guaranteed to experience story driven visuals which guide them back to the narrative the game designers wanted."

"Physically, the new console is fast smaller than Sony's previous efforts.
There had been some unfounded speculation that the hardware is under spec'ed due to Sony not being able to negotiate a better price from Nvidia, but Sony dismissed that and emphasised how useful it is to have such a compact console which can be powered by a standard USB C phone charger.

"The console will start at just $900 dollars and those who pre-order well be able to buy the exclusive Nvdia Green "The way we have played you" livery for only an additional $100 for a limited time only."

* Rumours that Sony executives had consumed far too much sake before the press conference are baseless.

+ When compared to native content rendered on Sony ComparTV with the special LaRd coating

AMD lacks consistency in their execution. They lack focus, commitment and sheer *******g wil! To me, they resemble the guy that trains 2-3 times a week, giving about 70% while it expects to be as good as or better than the standing champion. Not going to happen.

If it dies, it dies (meme) can be applied here. Nvidia can't raise prices much higher outside another crypto bubble or AI run so if AMD doesn't launch anything else then Intel will happily take its place. will be zero loss for end users outside of AMD fan base

C'est la vie!

Looking at the current gen consoles, I call BS to that.

Theres 50 plus million PS5 and Xbox Series S/X out there and rising, thats murder to both Nvidia and Intel, its also why Game devs still don't care about the PC versions of the game.

Not entirely true. Broken PC games are usually broken on consoles as well. Forspoken for example, it drops to an actual 720p resolution on PS5, lol

Oh look another thread going down the vram rabbit hole.... Dont know how people aren't tired of this **** now

Back then I agree, but not anymore, do also agree that price is the main factor but personally I'm happy to pay a premium if it meant getting better/faster advancement in visuals.
Amd with their weaker hardware and lacklustre features are directly holding back the next era of graphics, dare I say had Nvidia been in current consoles, dlss would be in every console game, meanwhile fsr......
You say Nvidia looks better but its just isn't

DLSS looks like vaseline smeared across the screen, you and others have bad eye sight, without even pixel peeping, it was extremely apparent in Atomic Heart that DLSS quality just looked bad compared with it just turned off.

You lot need to get your eyes checked honestly, it was really fast and without trying to notice the degradation in image quality.

So the one game in how many? Forspoken is the only real issue I have seen, everything else has not been the case.

How many PC games released broken in that duration?

You're brave....
Well, are they selling like hot cakes?

And yet Nvidia is making more money.
Crap games are on all platforms.

Calisto protocol was also stuttering like crazy on both PS5 and PS4. Cyberpunk as well.

As ive said, most if not all games taht are problematic on PC are also problematic on console. That's just a reality.

How does Nvidia making money matter to you?

How does Nvidia making more money means you get complete and polished games on release?
Ask the same questions when you're talking about AMD selling tens of millions of units and how bad nvidia and intel is destroyed. Especially nvidia is laughing all the way to the bank by how bad it gets beaten. AMD's golden goose is Ryzen. For now.

Cyberpunk looks rubbish and do you forget how that game got released? it got taken off sale, the game was obviously should never of gotten released when it did.

You are doing a rubbish job listing games and doing a good job describing just how many games are broken on PC.

What difference does it make if it looks rubbish or not? I said the same games that are broken on PC are also broken on console, you asked for some, I gave you some, you asked for more, I gave you more, wtf is wrong with you man? Just admit it and move on, jesus

LOL.

I've tried a few games that have DLSS, and all the time its resulted in worse image quality, you just need glasses my man, many of you have bad eye sight, just deal with that fact.

I hope you know how placebo works? its more applicable for those thinking DLSS doesnt affect image quality.

Lol, I've played that on my PC just fine while the consoles were so bad that they could barely run the game.
