Do Americans know....

Maybe not you personally, but yes, in general English people usually have something bad to say about Americans. As I said, my wife is American so I have seen it first hand - much more in the North than the South.
The usual stereotype is that they're loud and obnoxious when nothing could be further from the truth when I take into consideration the Americans I have met when we go over to see my Mrs's parents.

So don't 'goodness sake' me unless you live with it.

Even on these forums there are much more comments about 'crazy, loud, stupid' Americans that there are about Americans being actually very nice.

Excellent post and you probably have no idea what you said.
Stereotyping stereotypes.

Also, I like Discus fish and those little neon thingy's.

I suggest you buy a dictionary Simi for a kick-off. the word hatred has absolutely no place at all in your argument. The English do not hate the Americans.

If you want to discuss the immature nature of a minority, hiding behind anonimity, on these forums then that's a different argument nor can anyone on here comment on what you have experienced in your little bubble.

Don't cast aspersions on the entire nation - that is offensive.

You live with it? really well I live in london and nearly a dozen Americans as clients as well as there being many thousands of very happy ex-pats living here.

edit:

I'd add a recent set of circumstances into the mix:

The Macondo oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico saw effiges of British red coats being burned in the streets along with Union Jacks, countless jokes about the CEO's british heritage being made - I saw no whining on here to any extent saying the Americans hate us.

Compare this to the piper alpha platform disaster due to the parent US companies negligence - no where in britiain was our public reponse anything like the americans. there was no anti-american rhetoric along the veins of the one shown by the Americans.

I disagree, you are playing to a stereotype.....Americans no more fit that stereotype as the English actually think it.

I haven't experienced any anti-American rhetoric, much in the same way that I haven't really experienced any anti-English rhetoric......There are idiots from both sides that think it is funny to play to a stereotype, but that shouldn't be confused with hatred and serious discrimination.

I am probably uniquely positioned on this forum to have been a victim of it, if it were as prevalent as you claim.

The only real nasty discrimination I ever encountered was because of my mothers heritage and that came from her own people as much as from others.

Bless the British and how they don't know where Yanks come from..

The term Yankee (Yank/Yanks) within the US refers to people originating in the northeastern US.

I suspect the Canadians and New Zealanders get just as bored of getting called American or Australian by the British........

To be fair calling a Canadian an American is technically correct, much like calling a Brit a European is technically correct. :D

All you guys attacking me do realise that I backed off after a post from semi-pro waster - I realised my hypocrisy and admitted to it, you know, like an adult.

You're all a little late to the party or maybe you just wanted to get your soap boxes out and talk a load of bumfluff anyway, whether you're late or not.

I don't need a dictionary, I don't live in London so those situations don't really affect me, I don't care how much internet bile you want to anonymously pour over me.

I said what I said because the OP seemed extremely ignorant and I was at the end of my rope with this crap. I did NOT tar the whole of Britain with the same brush - although I did say "generally" but that absolutely does NOT mean constantly from everyone.

The area I live in is very racist (as are many areas in Yorkshire) mostly towards people with different colour skin, it's disgusting and it was like this when I moved away in the 80's. I was shocked to see that not much had changed when I moved back here with my wife and baby (new house / wanted son to be close to family).

So

Get off my back. I didn't realise that being anti racist was an offence in GD - no wonder I hardly post here.

We kept getting asked if we were Scottish.

Where I live, everyone automatically assumes Im Australian. As soon as I come out of LA, every knows I'm English. Vegas especially, I was shocked that everyone knew instantly I was british. Even when I asked for a Vodka Lemonade, everywhere else I go in the States when I forget to explain, I get Vodka with 'Real' Lemonade. However, in Vegas, the girls all knew that I meant Vodka Sprite, so gave me that. Was very impressed.

When I went to America to visit my grandparents, their neighbours thought that I was Dutch too. Only that they know my grandparents are British, and they guessed that my sister was British too. Was a bit of an awkward moment! :D

Always got asked where in Australia I came from by Americans.

yeah, Dagenham, Australia Mate....:p

I always wonder why they ask when nine times out of ten they don't know where it is.

You're from Cambridge? Is that near London?
You're from Sheffield? Is that near London?
You're from Newcastle? Is that near London?
You're from Glasgow? Is that near London?

etc etc :p Although I suppose on the America-scale of geography, everything in the UK is just close to London!
