Do any of you play WoW without add-ons/customised UIs?

2200+ UD Rogue player here, used defualt UI. Learn to use the standard UI and you will become a better player, as you rely less on the computer doing things for you.

Bump in the hope that someone can tell me the UI that "mothermayi" was using...

Looks like the DPS meters are recount, the unit frames are AG_Unitframes, chat panel looks like Pratt, the font is fontain.
Cant remember what the buff bars are called exactly, something along the lines of Elks Buff Bars.

A UD rogue, enough said really - anyone could face roll to 2200 with the state of the rogue class before the wotlk talents.

I was embarrassed at how many massive mistakes i could make as a rogue and still win or still have a chance of swinging the fight compared to my paladin or shaman. Rogues and warriors could easily play at full potential without mods.

I found it was not possible to play resto shaman or holy paladin to there 'full' potential in arena without mods - specifically being unable to track counterspell / spell lock cooldowns was an instant loss v top50 in a competitive battlegroup.

I use about 10 addons - most don't change the main display too much - they only show when I need them. (I.e. QuestExtender, MultiAuction etc.)

Sorry, didn't see you ask.

Its actually not mine, as I dont have a photo of my own. I just grabbed a random screenshot off the UI thread from EJ to illustrate my point.

Someone above gave you about as good a guess as I could have about which addons are being used, it actually looks quite a simple one to recreate.

It's not like I have to count DR's, target switch for CC, manually watch other player's casting instead of using focus target's target, count my own CC times, or count enemy's cooldowns or anything. Also I played double DPS, playing DPS + Healer is a lot easier.

Also if you need addon's to count for you well thats just ouch.

Tournaments are played on default UI, do you know how many rogue teams won major tournaments? 0. RDruid/(Hunter/Warrior/Warlock)/DPriest won them all. 2 healers in that team, winning at a global level with default ui.

So you absolutely cannot be a good player unless you use mod X, Y and Z? Is the player a good player due to themselves, or a good player because they use mod X, Y and Z? Does that person stop being a good player if they stop using those mods? In which case is it not the mod which is making them a good player rather than themselves?

No way that you can be inherently a good player?

its not so much about being a good player, most of the mods make the game less complicated and easier to handle all the data. Some people are control freaks and wow caters very well to this. I only know of a couple of mods I use that actually improve the gameplay the rest are just window dressing and convenience.

Mods make stuff faster to do/quicker and other things easier to use.
They give you a heads up on boss abilitys/player spells being cast etc.

Average user may not need any, high end raider deffo needs dbm or such.

I have a few add-ons.

I take a minimalistic approach to my UI's a very much like siuko's pic further up.

I strongly dislike UIs that cramp up screen space - like the black bar at the bottom of the UI that MotherMay showed.

I use:

Bartender 4 (excellent bar mod)
Ag_UF (very pretty and customisable Unitframe mod)
cooldowncount (great for monitoring cooldowns obviously)
Itemrack (a must for classes that can fill multiple roles)
Titan Bar (not really required but pretty good)

I need to add DBM and Recount, I havent done a lot of instancing so I have yet to get around to installing those.

PS can anyone recommend a mod for tracking CC durations? I play a druid and Id like a mod that shows my pounce, bash, maim, and cyclone durations.

Ive heard OmniCC is good, or possibly CCwatcher? Any other recommendations?

Double dps matters for nothing, i also played double dps on my rogue for a time - double human rogue - now are you going to tell me this setup takes more skill than any other setup.

As for no rogues winning the tournaments, I've not played since the middle of season 4 but the reason why they did not feature heavily in any of the global tournaments prior to this point was because they were forced to use S2 gear, nothing had ArP including the PvE stuff.

Everyone in the tournaments plays with default ui, so the playing field is level - the playing field online is not as pretty much anyone doing competitive arena is using a focus casting bar.

The playstyles online and the LAN tournaments are so different for h paladins and r shamans. The only time you seen these 2 classes at the tournaments was in the early seasons. There was a few occasions when people lost matches when attempting to recreate there online style by fakecasting every interrupt during the early rounds and then people just stopped even trying to fakecast on LAN.

Tell me how anyone is supposed to count in their head when multiple classes have a counterspell.

I use:

oUF Orbs
Carbonite
Bartender 4
Titan Bar (loc, bag count and time only)

Not really a huge amount of addons, but I like them and it makes the UI a lot more easier for me to use. Isn't 100% default, but I'm not far off :)

Official tournaments have little to do with the day to day gameplay really, I'm betting a tournament level team with stock UI would be ripped apart by a good guild with a useful set of addons.

That's not taking away the fact that they are good players, the stock UI is used to ensure that all players share the same handicap and don't have an advantage over the other team, which is why the modified UIs exist in the first place.

I'd love to see someone raid heal with the default UI, or DPS without Omen. Not to mention things like DBM which in a lot of guilds are enforced..

Did you even play Pre all these addons? Grid is about all you "need" as a healer for the rest if your alert and can see a chat log you don't need DBM as 99.9% of bosses emote when they do something. its hardly even needed for one to having dbm anyway as there is always some that will be announcing it anyway.

I can survive on grid, sct and quartz mainly because i like to be able to move cast bars

Yes, I did.

And you just agreed with me? DBM isnt needed by any means, but Grid is - As you just said.

None of the addons I used modify the GUI in any way but they do give me a lot more functionality and ease of use in the in the background. Its on low res as this isn't my main PC at home but this is my screen and everything installed :o

I don't use any add-ons that change the way the UI looks or how I play. At the moment I have outfitter, atlas loot, rating buster, bagnon and ct map for co-ords.

I've healed at 60 and 70, and never felt that I needed mods to be as good as or better than anyone else. I found Grid useful because I could be slightly lazier, but my healing "ability" didn't change due to using it. Blizzard have always given raid frames, and I used them all through Kara until someone suggested I look at Grid.

When I was raiding BT/MH, I used grid, omen and focus frame, and was equal with people who used all these "play the game for you" addons.
