Do cars de-tune themselves to increase efficiency when there's only a small amount of fuel in the tank?

I'm not sure if it's placebo or not but they always seem to pull harder after filling up from empty.

I find it's round the other way because the car is lighter. Don't notice it so much in this car but in my old 1.2 60bhp 850kg Punto I noticed a difference.

My car feels quicker when it's nearly empty for sure. 65 litres of fuel must weigh a fair amount!

Can't say I've noticed any difference at all with my Scania & 550litres of diesel weighs a hell of a lot!

It certainly feels more lively after I have emptied the trailer of its 30t payload!
