Do fan filters increase temps (and other questions)

Positive air pressure helps too - more air going in than out.

I'm about to cut my fans down to 2x120mm intake, 1x140mm exhaust. I'll be blocking up every other gap I can find in the case with magnetic strips (like the stuff you get on fridge magnets). That should mean that my intakes are dust-filter'd and air is blown out of every other orifice = less dust.

Why magnetic strips? Is it just because that's the easiest way to block them on a metal case or is your reasoning more scientific? Will you be using filters on your 2 12cm fans?

I used gaffa tape to cover up all the holes in my case to great effect - the sticky stuff leftexposed where the holes are also helps trap dust !
As Audigex says, positive pressure means dust will be pushed away from holes, optical drives etc, thus helping keep the inside of the case less dusty.

Good advice. My case is an Antec Solo with 2x92mm fans as intakes and 1x120mm fan as an exhaust. All normally run at 5V, but are ramped up under load. The intake fans are filtered, and all other gaps in the case have been sealed with duct tape. My PSU is also separated from the rest of the case, ducted to provide it with its own source of cool air and filtered.

I clean the filters about once a month and temps probably creep up a degree or so toward the end of this period. However, my computer runs so cool and quiet that it doesn't really make any difference.

Just because they fit very easily onto a metallic case. You can get magnetic sheeting pretty cheap from B&Q or whatever, like the stuff on the back of cheap fridge magnets (or printed-on magnets). Cuts out with a pair of scissors, is black already and sticks right where you want it.

Oh, and my case (Antec 300) already has a dust filter on the two front intake fans.
