Do I have a router problem or a line problem ?

Line = BT Infinity 2
old router - Draytek 2850n
new router - Draytek 2862AC

problem, old router has wifi bugs (one of the main reasons for the upgrade)
new router has been having frequent drop-outs, it can be 10 minutes or 2 hours, during working hours the resolution has been to plug the old router back in and suffer the wifi issues.

New router syncs at a higher speed and when I do a speed test is around 2mb faster.
Layout of the menus is very slightly different so trying to figure out if there is a setting I have missed.
Also trying to understand the stats page (attached)

Using Syslog, it shows a constant stream of information under the WAN tab, until the net disconnected then it just has the single entry showing WAN1 is disconnected.

I connected the new router last night around 21:30, and there was little to no net activity until 10am this morning, net dropped out just after 13:00, powered router off and back on and it wouldn't connect, so put the old router back in place and it connected straight away.

I don't know much about the Draytek routers but do you have any of the dropouts while you have the BT router in place?

Do you get these dropouts while using the 2850N?

If the old draytek and the BT router dont have any issues with the internet dropping out this would narrow it down to the new draytek router

If all is working OK then it would suggest a router issue\config.

Have you compared the settings between the 2 draytek routers to see if there is a setting that's different or is it possible to backup the 2850N settings to desktop and import them to the 2862AC?

sorry its not much help.

I had to copy the settings manually, however I was able to do this with one router connected to one pc and the new one connected to another, so the settings *should* be identical.
2850n, does not suffer line drops, it just has weird Wifi issues
I think this has answered itself anyhow, the new router has now decided to stick itself in a reboot loop when powered on, i cannot connect to it at all now, even after a reset, I have arranged a return/replacement, we'll see how the replacement behaves when I get it.

I think this has answered itself anyhow, the new router has now decided to stick itself in a reboot loop when powered on, i cannot connect to it at all now, even after a reset, I have arranged a return/replacement, we'll see how the replacement behaves when I get it.

Hopefully the replacement works and saves you anymore troubleshooting.

did you manage to backup the settings from the new router before it died or will you need to manually copy them over again?

It will be manual, but won't take any more than 10 minutes, my config is fairly basic.

That’s not so bad then, let’s hope the new one sorts the issues. Sounds like it’s been faulty from the get go and then died

New router arrived and setup/installed 2 days ago.
Had a solid connection since.

However just now, the connection dropped and same as before it connects to the DSL but then won't connect on the WAN side.
then drops the DSL connection, rinse and repeat.

I rebooted the router and it pretty much connected straight away.
So looks like the same issue as before

Are you running the correct modem code?

(I.e if you've updated firmware via draytek UK website you should be fine, if from draytek FTP that is often newer, the default model code isn't the correct one)

Modem code ? Not sure what this is.
Do you mean firmware ?

I have just updated the firmware to the latest one available, both firmware had _BT on the end, so I assume both were supported versions.

Would the incorrect modem code, allow the router to still connect but be unreliable ?

I think i might need to talk to BT to fine tune the connection, the old router syncs at a lower speed and has no issues, so perhaps the line isn't quite capable of the addition 5-8mb this router is syncing at.

779517 should be the correct one - it's what I have on my 2862ac, however you code try one of the alternate modem codes (E.g. 776D07) - in rare circumstances they have been known to work better with certain cabinets etc.

It possible that the 2850 used a much older modem code, and the newer 2862 may just have features that the cabinet is adjusting to e.g. via resyncing
