I have got an 60Gb SSD Vertex 2E and a 500Gb HDD Seagate 7200.12

should I use perfectdisk defrag? - it shows an 'optimize' feature for the SSD which "consolidates free space" , but it also has OPTI-WRITE which basically prevents fragmentation by defragging on the fly as files are written - this potentially can slow performance I think, will it be using this on the SSD or not?

thanks

You do not need to Defrag a SSD and shouldn't. The only thing I do with my Vertex 2E is leave it at the logon screen for a few hours every now and again to enable it to do it's garbage collection.

If your SSD has trim on it you really shouldn't use defragment on it at all. Windows disables defrag on an SSD with TRIM supported and enabled on it in windows 7 so using a 3rd party program to go around that would be a seriously bad idea.

leave it at logon screen for few hours??? sounds a bit strange that...

i have checked and PerfectDisk doesnt defrag SSD's - it does have SSD optimize though which consolodates free space - wonder if that helps or should I disable that>?
