Just upgraded to the rig in my sig. Still using a Samsung F3 500GB hard drive though.
Will my life change, lottery numbers come up, and women fall at at my feet if I get an SSD? :p
Or seriously, will it be a huge upgrade, not just for my O/S, but for games as well? :D

Well, your running simerlar spec hardware to mine, appart from you Don't have a SSD!

I got one last friday, a 120gb samsung evo.

Id been using two old sata 1 hdds, one 80gb with my windows 7 boot drive, and a 120gb with my data and programes that is about well, when did sata come out and became fairly cheap ish, 8 years ago? or sommat properly, not sure. its bloody aincient though.

and ssd has changed my computer completely, with the 120gb samsung evo as my boot drive with just windows 7 on and a few other important programs, it boots in less than 20 seconds from pressing the power button, its gone from, meh can i be bothered to start my pc up to do something, to just pressing a button and its on befor i even have a sip of a drink and turn my monitor on.

and i was worried about the whole, ah yeah but a new hdd, cant be bothered to reinstall windows etc, well samsung evo comes with migration software, and it just transfers everything from one hdd to ya new ssd, like my whole boot drive to my new ssd, job done in 20 mins, boot from it, and its all gravy, no hastle at all.

only had it since last friday, and only actually spent about 2 days on my pc because iv been away for 3 days, and in the two days iv actually been on my computer, well i couldn't use my computer without it now.

next step is to buy a bigger 2nd ssd drive for me files and programes, and use my hdds as backups!

edit: just googled it sata came out in 2003, i waited for 2 years after for the technology to get better, cheaper, and relyable, and well thats what iv done with ssd, and as everyone will say. now is the time to buy. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread... but IceShock.. thats what is holding me back from an SSD.. the reinstalling Windows etc. So I buy that SSD and I dont need to mess around with Windows again???? I must look into this

Even if you get a 120gb SSD and stick your OS, and limit the number of games most used media files installed on it to the bare minimum you will fall out of your chair when you first boot up your comp and start your game.
If you're worrying about copying across your OS from your existing drive, I would say don't worry. The software you get access to from SSD manufacturers to facilitate OS transfers is simple and painless. The most annoying thing is actually opening up your case to plug the drive in for the transfer.
This is now a great time to buy SSD's as there's a glut of them on the market, and prices are all very competitive and more importantly affordable.
Get an SSD, you may not find fortune and women, but you'll be amazed at how much better your pc experience is.
If this is not the case, I'll buy your SSD and eat anything Dervious refuses to

I think you should enquire about the contents of pryere's fridge before making promises like that ! :D

Anyway, I think the OP should be convinced by now.

If not, I'll eat my SSD. It'll take a lot of bytes though.

As J. Clarkson often says, on that bombshell..................

Going from a mechanical drive to an SSD is one of the best upgrades you can currently do to your PC in my opinion. Far bigger difference than all these incremental CPU upgrades that people seem to do.
