Hi, basically i have a bit of money coming in and i'm looking at upgrading my computer setup. Currently i have the following:

amd 8350
16gb ram
samsung 830 128gb
2tb hybrid sshd
Asus 7870
2 22" 1080p monitors

Current uses are light gaming, games like civ, wow, eve. Video making, uni work (programming, vmware for kali linux) and streaming.

I'm wondering if i would be able to grab a 970 for this system and then buy a new monitor either super wide or 4k. Would this allow for GTA V in either 3440x1440 or 4k. I know the 8350 is an ok cpu but it gets lower fps than an i7 4790k and would the 8350 cause a bottleneck. My only complaint about upgrading to a 4790k is that next year skylake/line (which ever it is) is due in the next year or so, so i would like the wait for that and in the mean time put the money into a monitor.

Heres what i'm looking at upgrade wise:

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** LG Flatron 34UM95-P 34" WideScreen Super-Wide LED Monitor £419.99
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 970 "NVIDIA 970 Cooler Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Online ONLY Promo** £305.99
Total : £740.08 (includes shipping : £11.75).

or for 4k

YOUR BASKET
1 x Acer Predator 4k2k XB280HK 28" G-Sync Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red £529.99
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 970 "NVIDIA 970 Cooler Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Online ONLY Promo** £305.99
Total : £850.08 (includes shipping : £11.75).

or another option that has a lower res

YOUR BASKET
1 x BenQ BL3200PT 32" Widescreen LED Professional/Gaming Slim Bezel Flicker FREE Monitor - Black £479.99
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 970 "NVIDIA 970 Cooler Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Online ONLY Promo** £305.99
Total : £800.08 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Would either of those setups be ideal with the 8350 or would i be better grabbing an i7 4790k baring in mind that skylake is coming out soon

What PSU do you have and what case?

There are cheaper GTX970s on offer at the moment and also a bgrade reference just like above for £239.

If you can overclock your 8350 that might help but its not an awful CPU, its just not as fast as a equivalent Intel.

I have a 600w.... 80 plus bronze one, i can't remember the brand.. i think its xigmatek. The case is the corsair 300r, this thing, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-063-CS&groupid=2362&catid=1489

The reason i've gone for that 970 is that the b grade one doesnt have gta v so thats another 33ish quid on kinguin and the price difference including gta v is only 35 quid and for that 35 quid im getting a new card rather than b grade

edit: here is the motherboard, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-471-GI if were talking overclocking

A single 970 is not enough for a 4K resolution monitor, Gsync is great but look at the easier to drive 1400P or 1080P Acers/AOC.

Also to overclock you will need an aftermarket cooler rather than the stock AMD item.

i do have an aftermarket cooler on it.
Would i be better with the lg monitor, 3440x1440p one, would the single 970 be able to game reasonably with a single card. I would like a pretty big screen to do work on, having a bezel in between monitors is a pain, looked at some reviews and you can fit like 4 word documents side by side on it, which is useful for uni work.

The reason i am looking at high res monitors is i have a 1080p tv and i put my computer on it as a test to see if i could use it...... and it looks revolting, so i am looking to get a bigger monitor but also with a higher res for more ppi.

What i'm wondering is will is 1440p high enough res for 32 inches? or is the lg 3440/1440 better and would a 970 be able to cope with the higher res
