You didnt mention the heatsink. I'm doing a build as well and it can be confusing to a newbie (ie me lol) if you say the paste is to go on the fan. It should be the heatsink part...unless im very much mistaken!

Not really... it isn't just used in reference to heatsinks in PCs! Even then, a lot of the time there is no paste whatsoever and it is in fact a thermal pad that is used. Collectively these are known as "TIM". What would you call them ?
