Do I need to drop kick my cpu into the bin

For the memory look on the website of the Corsair website for the MHZ units you have, and manually set the voltage, and speeds for the RAM, that way the volts for the CPU will remain unchanged.

Unsure why the volts on the |CPU would be changed with XMP anyway.

85c under occt load at 4.4? Looks about right for haswell to me, maybe a little on the high side but not that outlandish.

If setting xmp enables your cpu to run all 4 cores at 4.4 at full load, and you have no other overclock of your own, then its probably your motherboard auto-adjusting the vcore to keep stable, but asus boards do tend to push vcore quite high on auto. See how high the vcore goes on auto (using hwmonitor for instance), then set it one step lower in manual voltage in bios, check for stability, take it one step lower again in bios, repeat until you are no longer stable, then enter the difference between your last stable voltage and the auto voltage from the start as an offset voltage, so voltage still drops when idle. Check for stability again, as you may need to increase the Load line calibration until you are stable, as it may reduce your idle volts too much for your chip to stay stable when not doing anything.
