Do I really need to upgrade my 3750k to run fire?

Currently have a 280x card and am considering getting another. However I've read a few posts where people say 4 core cpu's will bottleneck xfire.

Is that really true? I don't want to have to upgrade my CPU if I can help it, as its a great bit of kit and currently runs at 4.6Ghz.

Depends on the game, how many CPU cores/threads it utilises, to what degree and the resolution you play.

Bottlenecking doesn't mean your crossfire setup won't run. You just may not extract maximum performance from your GPUs.

At least 3 of those games use 6+ threads well. Your CPU will likely bottleneck your 280Xs especially if the latter are overclocked. The situation would be worse with higher end GPUs like 290/290x/780/780ti.

You could sell your 3570k and get a second hand 3770k. You'd probably have to add £50-60 on top and no guarantee it will be a good clocker though. Alternatively, get a decent 2600/2700k which will work on your motherboard and clocks better. They should handle the 280x cards fine and better for ultra settings in the games you play especially if decently overclocked.

Just looking at the 4770k, but need a micro ATX board as I just bought an Aerocool DS case. Currently running with an Asus Maximus V Gene board

i have i5 2500k oc to 4gig with gforce 780 and I find when I load up xspilt my computer gets bottleneck tbh

I managed to sell my 3570K and buy a new 3770K and pay less than the retail difference new between them

It's not out of the question to go 3770K
