Valve should actually product a list of official stores to use, so this doesn't happen. There is no point them saying you bought from an unauthorised store and to use "Steam, Direct2Drive etc" without actually listing all correct companies.

edit: look like cheap imports of keys. I know companies did this for Microsoft products - they activated fine as they were legit copies, but not meant for sale within the EU.

They were selling Fallen Earth keys when the game first came out too, about half the normal price.

At the time there was no retail box available, the only place you could download it was from the developer's website or Direct2Drive. Those keys had to have been keygen'd.

Thats my understanding of the situation at the moment.

I heard about the whole bloodbowl escapade, AFAIK everyone received a full refund and some are even still playing the game (someone on here posted that they were).

I'd have no issue purchasing a key online, but after this only for non steam games xD
Their site was never the best, always took forever to load for some reason.

For gods sake, these keys are not "Keygen'd".

They buy from countries where games are much cheaper than simply sell on the CD keys and chuck the boxes/CD's.

Your buying from these places because you want to save a few quid, right?

Dont then cry when it messes up. You pay your money, you make your choice. It is a gamble.

Either your stupid or blatenlty knew the risk when you purchased the key at a price which undecuts the RRP by soo much.

Take it on the chin and move on. Who knows, they may even give you another key.

I don't think anyone suggested they actually are keygen'd more just used as an example to show you actually don't know where they get them.

The stolen BB keys is one example of them not being truthful when they claim to just be buying cheap copies from other countries.

If they lied about it then, there is nothing stopping them still lying about it now, they just live in hope they don't get caught out in the same manner if they are getting them the dodgy way.

Isn't that illegal ? The games may be meant for different markets but surely a free market economy means you can buy goods from wherever you like ? It's not illegal buying cheap apple stuff in the US or cheap Toys from China is it ? This is exactly steam abusing it's power, a cd key can be transferred over the internet for free... Now with stuff like cars you get a lot of transport costs and import fees, but these kinds of costs don't exist with software licenses... If there was no import fee and transport would be many times cheaper, nobody would buy the overpriced cars here but would buy them from cheaper countries too...

How does one Steal Serial keys?

Knocked off a lorry load of copies of Blood Bowl?

Who is to say Cyanide studios simply didnt like the fact people were purchasing their game at little cost when the game was originally intended for sale at a lower price in a country where piracy is rife?

I did suggest they use keygen'd keys, but only in respect of Fallen Earth, since at the time there was nowhere to get valid keys cheap from.

Fair enough.

In this region/Territory maybe, does not mean copies were not available in regions with high piracey rates.

Similiar with the movie studios, do they not release VCD's in some countries at the same time as Cinema releases elsewhere?

Maybe buying them with illegally obtained credit card details.

By working at a game publisher? Stolen credit cards?

I'd certainly put more faith in the word of a legitimate development studio than I would in that of a website who hide their WHOIS information via a service in Malaysia and use a GMail account for support issues.

In my eyes, the sooner people realize steam and EU based retailers are offering rip-off's compared to Asian prices and move to sites like g2play, the sooner publishers will be forced to lower the prices for games here and make it more fair compared to the prices in other parts of the world, let the free market even the prices out:mad:...

Afaik so far everyone I know has had refunds from G2play when steam acted like a greedy ****... I'd still definitely buy MW2 from G2Play as I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices Activision decided we're supposed to pay for it here. Their own fault for releasing the game cheaper in Asia. They want us to buy from certain retailers, then they first need to make the prices more even around the world.

Although I love Steam, I fear this to be the case, HOWEVER, I do have a niggling thought that MAYBE, Infinity Ward and Activision have something to do with this?

Their dis-respect for the PC community is shocking.
