Do people put Artic Silver 5 on their A64 SKT 939's?

it doesnt dry out like as5 and need reapplying every 6 months.
Is this really the case? I was considering splashing out on some 'quality' gunk when I next upgrade but I won't be if I need to keep re-applying it.

All thermal pastes should be reapplied at some point. There is no specified time for it, but you know when it is because your temps are a couple of degrees higher when everything else is the same.

My experience is that AS5 lasts far longer than most white gunk type pastes, not to mention being far more effective.

Ah thanks. I usually find my temps have increased due to a layer of dust on the heatsink ;)

Good point - I cut some fine filter type guaze stuff I get from work, to fit the inlet fan side of my case, and after a year, the insides are still covered in a thin layer of dust. Now that defo makes a difference.

I would imagine that by the time that the AS5 is crusty, the inside of the pc is in need of a full valet anyway.

Sorry to bring this back up.

How much do people apply on an A64? It says a very small amount but presumably that's for a Socket A processor?

Any thoughts much appreciated :)

Athlon64- About the size of one and a half uncooked grains of short-grain white rice or 3/4 of a BB.
See here

There was an article a couple of years back on pastes of sorts on the Oz site DANSDATA - toothpaste IIRC came out best - but it dries out quickly - I'll see if its still there.

Found it:- http://www.dansdata.com/goop.htm

Forgot he did Vegemite too!!
