Do we think "tray" AMD CPUs will be available at some point?

Just buy retail and sell the cooler?
Is there actually a market for the cooler though, if everyone is buying retail? Unless someone breaks their cooler why would they need another one of the same type? Can they be fitted to other platforms?

If anything I'd expect there to be a glut of coolers because you'd have to compete with all the people who bought retail and then selling off their coolers because they've bought something better aftermarket, rather than a queue of people wanting to buy stock AMD coolers.

Yes a few people buy stock coolers for various reasons. I don't know why they buy them, but they do.

I'd expect you to be able to fit the wrath cooler to an older AM3 and FM2 socket board. It uses the stock mounting bracket rather than the screw holes in the board.

I run a silent PC build, as I use the machine all day for development work. I'd rather pay a small extra amount for a quieter cooler and lower temps. ;)

And I believe the "X" actually ships with a better cooler - I was looking at the 3600 regular. Price difference more than covers the better cooler.

Under load the AMD cooler is quieter than my intel cooler under load ;) and both are as quiet as each other idle.

So for noise AMD cooler wins again. :)

Now of course if I got a top of the range noctua cooler it might be different. But the AMD cooler is beating a £60 after market cooler.

Intel stock fans are not a great comparison point, though. I replaced mine with a sub £20 Arctic unit and it was a night-and-day difference to both noise and temps.

To quote the Tech Yes City video of the $17 Snowman cooler: "it [also] came in with considerably less noise"

I run three Noctua fans in my current rig, so I'm aware of their great performance and (unfortunately) price. But here we are talking about coolers costing sub £20, not "a £60 after market cooler." :)

An stock am4 cooler will not fit am2/3.

I thought the am4 stocking mounting plate was longer. Because spring loaded am4 coolers won't fit am4

An AM3 stock cooler will fit and AM4 socket board. I've tried it. I don't see why the reverse would not also be true.

I'm talking about the newer wrath coolers with a metal clasp that hooks onto the top mounting bracket. Like the one bundled with the 2700X.
Not the older screw in ones like the Spire cooler bundled with the 1700.
