I was watching a repeat of Top Gear on Dave and Paul McKenna hypnotized Richard.

Now I have always had doubts about Hypnotism. For some reason I have always thought "it's not real, they just pay the people and make them sign a NDA".

But the fact that it's still going on leads me to believe that people can me hypnotized and made to do funny stuff etc.

Interest in your thoughts on the matter.

No, not in the sense that people will fall into a trance and obey your every command. Yes in the sense of power of suggestion. People only do funny stuff or whatever, because they consciously want to.

Hypnotism is very real. I have been hypnotised a few times and it was a very weird experience.

However, I very much doubt that people can be made to do strange things like Paul McKenna claims to do. You are put into a very deep state of relaxation - there is none of this clicking of fingers to awake or put someone to sleep.

I was hypnotized once in Ibiza and no at that point I had not had a drink, I was well aware of what I was doing I just couldnt stop myself doing it, was a very weird experience, so yes it is possible.

Nope.
In public where a lot of people seem to be hypnotized (strange that ;)) they don't want to let the side down and go along with it.

I tried hypnosis one on one to quit ciggies, can be summed up in two words: bobbins utter.

In the suggestive manner like Darren Brown or something like giving up smoking. I suppose I believe it. After all it's just mind over matter.

Stage stuff is what I just don't understand.

On stage it's still all about suggestion. That and co-operation in front of an audience. The 'hypnotist' will already have filtered out who he feels will be the most co-operative people to use for the funny stuff.
