I know for a fact PC gamers don‘t Buy disks anymore….I've seen and worn the T shirt…I’m not sure why console gamers are so into disks? that’s the feeling I get….but this poll might educate me more…
Simple really - price.

Typically when a PS5 title comes out - it'll be in the range of 60-70 quid for the 'base' game. Whereas a physical disk version, can usually be had 10 quid (or more) cheaper. And months after release you can get a much better deal on a disc, than the store - as those prices often remain high; and you have to then wait for deals to make the price more realistic.

A. The last console for which I bought discs was the Xbox 360. All of those cases take up too much room. I’ve never bought a single disc for my Xbox Series X or cartridge (they take cartridges, right? :p) for my Switch.

Physical and resale. Buying from "thegamecollection.co.uk" or "hit.co.uk" and reselling at CEX or EBay or FB if you want to deal with people, you can recoup half your money. Free steel book which you can get at least £15, you can game for free sometimes.

I buy most of my games on disc. This is simply down to price and the ability to sell them afterwards.
Most digital games are £70 and once it's finished you're stuck with it. Games on disc are around £60 which you can sell for maybe £30-£40 when you're done. So that £20-£30 for a game versus £70. It's a no brainer IMO.

I don’t see that many games on PlayStation for £70

God of War is £43 and Hogwarts is £32

Alan Wake 2 is £39

EA SPORTS FC™ 24 Is £28

Same game is £50 at cex

New games are mostly priced at £69.99 on the PS Store. You can get some good deals sometimes, which is when I might buy a game digitally.

Yeah £59.99 or £69.99 is pretty standard if you want it digitally on release. Mostly I am happy to wait a year or so and grab them when £30 ish. Sometimes if I want I’ll pay the full price but that doesn’t happen all that often. This year actually has been pretty decent for releases that I want - Diablo IV, Baldurs Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2 were all day one digital purchases for me. I will get 100’s of hours out of those games so for me it’s worth it.

Iirc, GOW launched at about 60 quid, Hogwarts was upwards of that, and AW2 was 50 quid.

Cex isn't very good for PS5 games imo, as they seem to keep their prices high, but if you look on the MM here and a few other well known online outlets for second hand - you can save yourself money. I also keep checking the prices of new games on other sites I cannot name - recently getting Dead Island 2 for 30 quid on disc, which was consistently been 50-60 on the PS Store (I know it's in offer now though)

Adding £90 to your PlayStation wallet using a gift voucher costing £77.99 also shaves money off

I’ll never buy a game on release. I’ll wait 12 months get it cheaper and wait for patches and updates to iron out the bugs.

I’ve not played Cyberpunk yet apparently it’s playable now and has been £19.99 on PlayStation store…currently £23 :D

I have a UK playstation account for with loads of older purchases on there. Upon moving to Spain I realised that you can't change it to a Spanish account, you have to create a new account and I would lose my old digital games.

So I can only buy digitally via the UK psn store. Which I do using cheap cdkeys codes to top up.

I don't buy enough games per year to care about th price difference on release for a new game and older games I wait for the regular psn sales.

My last day 1 purchase was Spider-Man 2 and I got that for about 55gbp using codes.

Disk whenever possible. Very few PS5 games I want to keep or play more than once.

I sometimes buy digital if the deal is good and for convenience but I haven't bought many games this year at all and have already sold most of them, even skipped Spiderman 2. Will grab a disc copy at half price next year since I know exactly what to expect from it so no rush at all.

Still have some Plus games to finish anyways.

Tempted to actually go back to buying a few discs as this is the first PS5 I've had with a drive. But there's nothing really that screams "buy this!" I would have got Alan Wake 2 seeing as that will never come to Steam but that doesn't have a physical release.

Mostly digital now, I'll buy the odd game on disc if it's something I think I'll play once and then want rid of but it's rare these days. Disc swapping gets a bit laborious and on a 1Gbps connection I can download a game quicker than it takes to install off a disc.

With discounted PS Store top-ups the price difference (certainly on newer releases) isn't particularly significant either. That said, discs are still the best value most of the time especially if you want to sell games afterwards so I hope they stick around.

Another thing for me…If I bought a disk version…It would take me months to finish it….so say I bought a used Spider-Man 2 disk for £45 the going rate now on forum market place….by the time I completed it and sold it…I’d probs get £20 for it…if that…

So I’d rather just buy it when it’s £29.99 or less on sale later…digitally.

If I had a young son or daughter who gamed and completed Spider-Man 2 in 3 days….i would defo buy the disk version and sell it on…

But I don’t have the time or the inclination to sink hours a day into a game…if I don’t fancy watching a movie or I need a break from the studio recording in the evening….I might fire up a game for a few hours…but that about it…

Getting the latest releases and finishing them is not what I do…I’ll happily be a couple of years behind the curve….

Last night I played the 2 hours trial of Last of us Part 1…Time flew by and I want to carry on…but it’s £43 on PS Store…and I’ve heard the game is not that long….

I can buy it new online in disk format for £37.99…say it takes me a couple of months to complete I could sell it to CEX for £21 so the game would have cost me £17.

So it either £17 and hassle or get a PSN wallet code for 35.99 that gives me £40 and buy it digitally for £21 extra…

Decisions decisions…:p
