Do you ever get...

I actually bought a non-crossfire/sli board to avoid this. That mobo died and the cheapest P35 replacement I could get has crossfire.

I have also recently downgraded from q6600 to e4300 and from G92 GTS to 7900gs as I got a X360 and the only pc games I am likely to play for a while run fine on that combo.

But I have completely become obsessed with setting up a crossfire system. I just have a compulsive spending disorder. I know there is not much point. I know I am better off not spending the money. But I just cant help it.

I will tell myself "No, its pointless, just wait a while and things will be cheaper and you are not really going to use it anyway". Then 5 minutes later I will be on etailer sites again, looking at cards.

I get so obsessed when my brain gets caught up on something like this that I start losing sleep. I spend hours looking at the same shopping basket, wondering whether I should jsut click the submit button and put my mind to rest again.

Its a real problem for me... :(

I'm on the brink of replacing my month old 8800GT with a GTS!

Just do it!

I've had times when I find myself staring at the BFG gts. It looks so pretty;) Keep having to tell myself it would be an insane waste of money.

That and the 620W version of my PSU...you never know when you need that extra 100 watts...

I think its something to do with capitalism, the "reward" mechanism in our brains, and our addiction to this forum which is so very closely related to the online store OCUK :o

Yup, taking it out imo would make the psu spin up even more, had it out a while back and noise jumped somewhat. Doubt changing the fan would make that much diference really.

Just fired an email to lian li about the top exhaust fan placement, though im expecting a response back in boken jibberish asking me if i would like fries with that. :(

I think the design is pretty bad there, there isn't even a grille over the fan. I didn't realise at the time but when I first built my PC one of my power cables jammed the fan until it died.

ive been sat here all morning with not a lot to do at work looking through the OcUK website thinking "i have money, what could i buy"

then i work my way down the list:
"waiting for the new Quads"
"could do with a new motherboard though"
"got enough memory"
skip to graphics cards
"ooo those 8800GTs do look tempting, seeing as my GTS320 is getting old"
"just bought new hard drives"
"wouldnt mind a SATA DVD-RW"
"wonder how much better a sata RAID card is than the onboard raid?"

basicly narrowed it down to:
new motherboard, new graphics card, RAID card, new sound card

was very nearly going to go with the motherboard, instead i just ordered an 8800GT :| the missus will kill me if she realises the reason i want to go for an indian rather than chinese for our meal tonight :p

lol

I am in a similar situation:

"my GTS 640mb is cack, need something better maybe a GTS or a 3870x2"
"but you've just bought a new motherboard, a new cpu cooler, ram, a new hdd not long ago"
"I need a new gfx card though"
"no you don't"
"yes I do!"
"no you don't!"
"yes I goddamn do!"

:p

Peenmark :D

I did, once upon a time. Bought an FX55 and SLI'd PCI-e 6800GTs when they first came out. Oh, and a vapochill case to run them in.

Not since. I go for the good price : performance payoff point, within the mid-high end bracket.

I'm thinking about a new 24" monitor, a nice new leather chair, adding a 3rd GPU, which would mean a new PSU, and maybe water cooling... Do I need them...? no... :o

but will you buy them the second you can afford it...? .... im going to bet yes ;)

had a 2nd lot of 2x1gb pc6400 die on me. Because it would probably take at least a few days to rma i wasn't sure if crucial would agree to crosship mem out quickly for rma but checked a rivery site for that cheap ocz mem(due to a certain free delivery for a year deal) and added to basket. Waited till to late no reply from crucial, went back to the site yesterday put mem in basket again along with a few dvd's and a book and just confirmed without really paying attention, so ordered 2 packs instead of 1 :p

I've done that a couple times before if i remember right. I often drop an extra air dust can or a fan or something into an order assuming i'd need one eventually and not have to order it specially so sometimes i end up with a couple cans spare air and multiple spare fans i don't need :p

I've also gotten terrible at selling on older kit i've replaced as i've gotten so irritated selling stuff on MM/anywhere else. No matter what info you tell them, literally every last possible question people insist on offering 50% what you asked 10 times in a row via e-mail or in the thread, and asking questions that 5 other people asked already. Last big sale i did was over some 600-700 worth of old kit and it took me ages to get it sold and sort through e-mails, i got something like 250 e-mails of which 90% were worthless waste of time answers who when you respond simply say, think i'll leave it or ignore you completely.

I did it. I bit the bullet and ordered 2 x 3850's. I feel both a sense of relief and of guilt.

But more relieved than guilty :D

I think what I need to do is stay away from places like this forum...

My main problem is i like the smell of new components, ie when I first break the seal of the ant-static bag, I stick my nose in straight away, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, its like when you open a bag of crisps or a foil packet of teabags or when when you break the seal on that new jar of coffee, you can smell the freshness that was locked in....I need help!
