Not sure if this has been asked before, but thought I'd pop in a new thread anyway.

Do you ever try and explore the Internet a bit more? By that I mean, do you often and purposely go looking up anything and everything; just to see what's out there, or broaden your horizons...

Personally I find that I often stick to a pretty small selection of websites - a handful of news outlets, the odd tech one, here of course, Youtube, the usual suspects for online shopping, a bit of Reddit, and some 'art' sites but that's about it. Whenever I need to find something out, or am a little curious, I'll Google and pick at a few of the results - but I'm only ever really looking at a tiny tiny fraction of what is out there.

I remember back in the late 90s when it was all Freeserve 'free' dial up, and my Dad picking up a magazine called "Internet" or some such original title, which listed lots of different sites under categories; I guess back then it was a novelty to be able to bring up almost anything on a Yahoo search. Even Loaded used to give you lists of sites to go and look at - mind you, when a lecturer at college found them, she gave the class a talk about how "disgusting" it was (probably Office Pest) :D

I often think about how much stuff is wasted on me, as I don't go looking - maybe Google searching has made me lazy, but it would be mildly interesting to know if anyone else sticks to the same old few sites.

I use an extension on Chrome called Stumbleupon. You rate each site it gives with a thumbs up or down and it learns what kind of things you like. You start off with a few subject areas you like and go from there. Found some really good stuff with it.

The closest I 've got to actively searching is that I always try and page through a few of the results pages after I do a google search to see if anything interesting presents itself. There are a fair few retro gaming blogs or fan made sites from yesteryear that exist in the tail end of search pages that are interesting to read, and thanks to SEO will never turn up on the first 3 pages of results.

I can't even comprehend of how much stuff is out there that seldom gets seen by people. We all have our go to sites, and from time to time I'll randomly find something new, but it'd have to be amazing to make it into my bookmarks.

Closest I do is the YouTube game where you keep watching recommended stuff. It's all good until you end up on battleships dressed as school girls and people bursting cysts the size of melons.

no not really.

I probably have an even smaller "repotoire" of websites I visit than most in fact.

Have loads of bookmarks but rarely visit them.

this forum is handy for landing me on random sites when people post links to other places, although most of them are even the same websites now :(

Yes I do explore the internet but invulnerability all paths lead to porn

nope, even the invulnerable Superman is afraid of The Internet lol

99.9995% of the Internet is dross, the good parts are the websites we are familiar with and porn. Even a lot of the porn is rubbish /jaded

Back when the net was new and fresh I think bi first act online in 1996? It was easy to find new, obscure sites. Today I seem to stick to the same few sites, the net has become a giant shopping mall tbh.

I tend to find something new almost every time I search. Mostly I'm fact checking something or broadening my knowledge on a particular topic. I still feel though that 99.999999999999999999999% of the web is still awaiting me. There's literally too much information out there for any human to digest in a lifetime.

I miss the 90s and looking through home pages - pretty much everyone had one. There was some seriously entertaining/interesting stuff out there (and a lot of rubbish too).

My browsing is pretty much a carousel of about 6 sites now. Might have to re-install stumbleupon.

My colleague was testing access points the other day by googling random phrases (to check internet access) that brought up some amusing websites. Generally I stick to a few known ones but branch out when the need arises.
