Yes. I'm part of the NHS, working in the labs. Me and four others run an emergency rapid response lab that services the ECC, and it's situated at the end of a corridor with resusc on the left (where people go to die), the relative's room on the right (where people cry about the people dying in resusc) and the viewing room next to that (where people in the relative's room can look through a window to identify the dead people stored there). Most people actually live going in to there, but it's not uncommon to see the unlucky ones wheeled to and fro. Of course, from our end of the corridor you face the far side, where the majority of patients are treated. It's such a perspective shift, from working in the main lab that's mostly isolated from the patients to being thrust into the centre of things, and it really puts what I do in context. On top of that, I really enjoy the work I do, though it's not always apparent.
