Do you flash others to warn of speed cameras?

Speeding is illegal, I highly doubt you don't, or at least haven't ever exceeded the speed limit.

He means flashing to warn others of a speed trap is illegal and people have successfully been prosecuted for it.

The thumbs down is common amongst bikers and lorryists around here, I will warn them but there are enough pensioners flashing constantly for a few miles to warn others already.

I flash, been saved on a few occasions rushing to work where they set up in a really cheeky spot. I'm not a big speeder, I wouldnt in towns or places where its unsafe and you cant see ahead. But some of the speed limits in my area are just straight up wrong and they set up to take advantage of that. I always make sure I pull the most disgusted face possible at the speed van or copper as I pass too. I just want to make sure they know how I feel about it.

I was once driving in traffic when the guy behind beeped his horn. I looked in the mirror and saw he was holding up a "Brake Light Out" sign.

Not only was it laminated, but it was written in mirror letters :)

Legend.

Yes I do. The legal position mystifies me. The stated intention of speed traps are not to catch people speeding, they are supposed to be there to make sure people aren't speeding. If I flash other drivers and they slow down then the job is done...

You should flash your lights at random then. Just to keep everyone on their toes.

Flash lights, thumb down, international road rule 101 to indicate a speed camera or fuzz, taken from my dad in the early 70's and seemingly less common these days outside older drivers and lorry drivers.

Same, taught by my Dad in the late 80s and by my school bus driver in the early 90s. Always done it some I started driving in the late 90s.

I used to until I got a ticking off from an unmarked who happened to be driving the other way. Flashed and gave the thumbs down, he turned around and stuck the blues on behind me. Didn't get anything other than a ticking off but still it was enough to make me stop doing it.

I've been flashed thumbs down, and at the time I was thinking what the **** did I do wrong, 100 yards up the road there the cops was hiding the van pretty much in bushes

That's a good point :)

They are?

I always thought speed cameras were there to catch...speeders?

They are there to fill gaps in the budget of the government en enforce idiotic environmental reasons.

There is no good reason for a speed limit on most stretches of motorways, the safest type of road of them all.

There can be something said for speed enforcement in built-up areas or on dangerous ''black spots'' on country roads. On motorways however, it's nothing more than greedy cashing.

I don't get why you wouldn't want to help another person out even if they are not speeding it's still a friendly thing to do.

If they're not speeding though, how are you helping them out?

In fact, if you do flash them and they don't understand what it's for, they might be inclined to be distracted by it. I don't think that's a clever thing to do.

Let people speed at their own peril.

Never for a fixed speed camera (they're everywhere and most people will just wonder why I'm flashing them and get distracted), but I will if there's a van or a policeman with a gun and it looks like someone's going a bit quick and/or not going to see or expect it until it's too late.

If we were to restrict motorways, we'd need to have driver training on them and I don't think all motorways should be unrestricted just like not of them are free reign in Germany.
