Do you like Christmas music played in shops

Now i've just realised that shops in Spain don't seem to play any music in shops! Didn't occur to me before this thread. Maybe its a British thing...

The did in Malaga when I was there they even played it in the public toilets which was a novel experience

Not too bothered. So long as it's December.
I don't mind music but the thing about xmas its the same songs they've been playing for the last 40+ years and I remember every one of them there comes a point when Slade starts playing where I think not again I've heard it a dozen times already this xmas and every bloody year since it came out. Noddy Holder once said it was his pension scheme.

Just call me the Grinch.

I heard Christmas Music. It's November for God's sake. Shops just move on to the next gimmick to sell to us consumers every year...

It will be Easter Eggs in January 2024, as usual.

Popped into asda after work, 7 in the morning and Christmas music blasting out, poor staff looked demented.

I now actively avoid going shopping if I know that Christmas music will be played this early on in the year, so end up buying more online. If there are more people similar to me, who like Christmas music but at the appropriate time, then the shops are putting another nail in their own coffin. Same for eating out, I actually asked a pub owner if they had any control over the music, as last year they were playing it first week of November, we ended up going elsewhere as it continued to be interspersed with 'every day' music and was far too off putting.

Indeed who wants to hear Cliff Richard's greatest Christmas songs, in November. Its like torture!

Oh and George Michael, you know which song.

I honestly can't believe anyone enjoys Christmas music being played in any stores. To the same degree I can't imagine anyone actually enjoys music being playing in any store anyway, it's just background noise to drown out the normal workings of a shop and it's customers.

I heard that the John Lewis advert is already out. Haven't seen it yet, but I could have sworn it used to be later than now, like late November.

The Christmas lights switch-on in Stafford is usually the last Saturday of November, so always the 20-something of November, which would make it the 25th this year. That to me sounds about right for retail starting to play Christmas music. My own lights go up in the nearest weekend to 1st December, so this year it will be Friday 1st Dec.

Mariah Carey is the most over-played Christmas song. I was 16 when it came out in 1994, so I'm reminded of that year when it came out. I actually preferred East 17's "Stay Another Day" which was the Christmas no.1 of 1994.

After working in a toy shop for a year many years ago, which included full time over christmas... Hell no!

Normally I'm wearing earbuds now, so doesn't really matter.

Mini eggs should be available all year round anyway. Creme eggs on the other hand can be banned along with Christmas music

(Must confess I do quite like the Alex Melton cover of All I want for Christmas, even though I can't stand the original)

I'm not a humbug, being on the Xmas music , I find it helps me get in the spirit, I love Xmas it's been difficult to get into it this year though various reasons, but usually I'm Mr Xmas.

Many moons ago when worked in retail I didn't mind the music playing on loop for months on end,

I have found that as I've got older everyone around me seems to get grumpier and grumpier about Xmas as the years go on, which goes with the general feeling that Xmas is being watered down as each year goes by..
