Could you not start a Mathematics thread. Discussing its uses applications in subjects that would appeal to a larger audience.
I for one have a massive interest but absolutely no education. I would be well interested in the thread/topic if discussed in a way i could understand and about things that interrest me.

Truth.
My lack of knowledge on this subject makes me shy away from commenting but this does not stop the buzz i get when i read/discuss such matters.

joking aside - i like some photos of me, and hate others
preference = left profile, i guess because i have wonky eyes/ears and my parting lies to right, i just look a bit skewwiff (eh?) in 'face on' photos.
i think it also depends on whos taking the photo, but i like to have veto on which ones get shown and which get thrown/deleted.
i mean, we can't have people knowing the truth....

I could, but to be honest I very much doubt that I could say anything better than the many authors who have already written on the subject! I've already mentioned the book by Tim Gowers, which is excellent in that it introduces you to the notions of abstraction, proof and axiomatisation that are essential for doing 'real' mathematics*.

Alternatively you might be more interested in applications of mathematics to the real world. If so then I recommend taking a look at books by Ian Stewart or Roger Penrose. In particular there's one by Ian Stewart called Game, Set and Math which applies maths in some unexpected ways - for example, it explains why a tennis player who is just a tiny bit better than his opponent is much more likely to win the match.

I'll always be keen to lend a hand if you want to talk about maths (it's possible that I'm slightly obsessed

) but I genuinely think that you'll be far better off looking at some good books which don't require much background than trying to get me to guide you through it! I'll have a go at making a list of the best ones, and update this thread when I've done it.

I dont mind some photos of me! I have to take loads ot get a nice one though, and I've discovered over exposure makes me look good lol

I like these two lol with my new hair, i always look miserable in pics though!
