Looking to get a new 47 inch LCD, narrowed it down to a Sony W805 and the Panasonic 60ET. The Sony has about half the input lag of the Panasonic but is around £800 whereas the Panasonic can be had for £650 with a 5 year guarantee! This leaves me wondering if the Sony is really worth the extra based on just the input lag and how much that will be an issue in real world terms.

Currently gaming on a 42 inch Sharp Aquos from about 6 years ago but can't find details of the lag on that so it could be that it's considerably higher and I haven't noticed, unless lag has increased in newer sets as new feature rear their head!

Thoughts please :-)

If I don't game in game mode on my GT50 I notice input lag.

It's a huge difference, I think in gaming mode it's around 30ms and in other modes it can be 80-100ms.

I would aim for a tv to have a maximum of 40ms lag at worst personally, but I couldn't put an exact figure on when it becomes noticeable.

I have 2 tv's and the other has roughly 40ms lag and I cannot detect it.

That's why I chose that as the highest I would be prepared to buy.

You never know though I could be able to not detect it until it hits over 55 or 60ms, or maybe noticeable as low as 45ms, without testing hundreds of TV i couldn't tell you.

It depends on how good your eyesight is, etc.

The Sony is 16ms and the Panasonic is 34ms I think! The £150 May be best saved and put towards a half decent sound system, all tv's seem to have abysmal sound these days :-(

Well as a lot of the tvs get narrower there isn't much room to put the speakers, hence why some of the 2014 speakers are getting chunkier again.

Although obviously there are some really good small speakers, but to put them into tvs would increase the costs a lot.

Concerning the OP and input lag I tend to game more on my pc so isn't a problem, if I do game on console traditionally Ive bought Samsung or Sony which usually have reasonable lag in gamer mode.

I would also base my choice on Picture Quality, Price and Screen Size.

Not just lag.

As for sound I already have a pioneer sound bar which owns any built in speakers.
