Canon Pro300 here. A3+ pigment ink printer used for photo printing only. I used to have a do-it-all Epson printer/scanner but the inks kept drying up through lack of regular use.

Canon MF3010 mono laser, no idea how old it is now. Runs off my Synology NAS and lives with it under the stairs.

Use it quite a lot printing labels for eBay sales.

Ink printers are just a scam.

I bought a laser one with a scanner built in a few years ago for the few times a year I have to scan or print something off, it is very good at collecting dust...

Stelly
LOL yup.
They do tend to collect a lot of dust, I sometimes have to throw the top sheet of paper on the paper tray away before printing because dust to stops the rollers pulling it in properly (I somehow forget to dust the paper tray on the printer...).

My one is actually on a smart plug as it's got some sort of firmware bug where if it's not used for X long it seems to go to sleep and not wake up when you press the only power button on it, which is, of course with modern devices connected in such a way that it doesn't actually interrupt the power but works like a PC power button. So the smart switch lets me interrupt the power and fully power it down rather than just trying to wake it from sleep, and do so without pulling the printer out to reach the wall socket behind it.

I have a Epson XP 760 printer that we have used, more intermittently over time, for years. Bought 2017.

But, it also has the same bug / feature you describe. It is quite annoying, as due to the intermittent use, it can mean that it needs a full power cycle before it will work again.
The power cycle seems to involve a lot of clicking and whirring before it is ready again, grrrr.
Our eldest daughter has the same issue on her Epson printer.

I have recently changed the ink pads, and reset the counter, for our other daughter and her Epson printer.

Good idea about the smart plug. Just tried to find my printer now on my network, gone into a coma...... again.
