No last one I had was ink cartridge and I barely used it, it clogged up so bad I had to throw it away total waste of money. If I did get one it'd be laser but it'd have to be cheap as I barely use them if I do want something printed I just go to the local library which is 5 minutes walk away, when its open.

I use the printer because it's neater than hand-writing out the inlay cards for my mix tapes....!!

Printer became even more useful during Covid with all the returns forms you had to print off. Working from home means needing to print off all the plans, maps and associated documents for work, rather than driving all the way into the office just to print stuff.
There's also a load of kids stuff, as well as school work, that can be printed far cheaper than buying it direct.

Yes. Just a very cheapo Cannon psc that cost me about £40 it does the job. Just bought it to print labels for Rmas and when I sell stuff.

I own a canon ts5150. It replaced the canon mg4250 which was a great printer and to be fair a regret the purchase. Recently tried the epson expression home XP-3205 which was worse than my current. My wife uses it a lot and the ink is so expensive and rarely works with third party ink cartridges. Any sub £100 recommendations?

Colour laser here.
  • If you need photo printing you're better off going somewhere they have a really top end printer
  • Managing ink tanks/print heads etc is a pain, especially if you don't use the printer often
Given the above, a colour laser reliably covers all uses for me.

I own one but it’s needed new ink cartridges for about 2 years.

I just tend to print anything out at work.

I only bought it when I was off work for a few weeks and needed a label printed for a return.

I hate having to still own one. They take up space. We still have an old Epson Photo printer, which I feed full of cheaper than cheap, 3rd party ink cartridges. We rarely use it to be honest. I've been thinking of getting rid of it as it's rare that we print photos, and when we want a proper print, we'd probably get it done somewhere. It is good for occasional homework duties or cards where someone needs to print a photo.

We also own a Brother Colour Laser. Super useful to be honest. The amount of stuff the kids print for homework and stuff. Also labels for parcels is really handy as someone said above, not having to rely on in store printers that never work etc. Our old Brother was brilliant for years, then died outside of warranty. Nothing even mechanical...it was a fault with the actual PCB internally which was annoying. Lasers are just so much less faff than the inkjets, and the toner tends to last ages and are more reliably generally I find.

ET-8550 wanted to print some pictures in large format but after the initial few weeks of use and due to the size it's under a bed now.

I pay 10p at the local library per sheet. I haven't spent remotely near £1 on printing in a decade.

There's no need for a printer in this day and age. Especially when nearly everything is digitised and printer ink is also the most expensive liquid on the planet!
