I was having a discussion about citizen and your own children's ownership. It's good to know the fundamentals etc. So what's the relationship between the State and us or our children. Obvioulsy if we commit a crime then we are arrested/jailed etc. But even in our so-called free lives does the State still actually own you?

The one I find interesting is that if you get a limb amputated, you don't get the option to take it home. As far as I know.

If your neighbour trims your tree, he's supposed to offer the trimmings back, when a garage changes car parts, you can ask for the old ones, but not your own fingers or legs etc.

No, we don't technically own ourselves. We think we do, but the state owns us in reality. It amazes me that we have the option to opt in/out of being organ donors.

I imagine that's from a health and safety point of view rather than an ownership point of view.

I'm the incorrectly spelled word in this OP.

Has anyone contested this in court ? I suspect it would cost an arm and leg to try :(

"Own" is perhaps not the right word.

But yes, the State certainly has more power and control over children than the Parents do, by a very large margin.
It’s hust a shame they don’t use that power and control as much as they should, judging by some of the awful abuse stories you hear on a weekly basis.
