Do you people still use a CRT?

Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB CRT in full effect.
Still haven't seen anything that touches it. It's gorgeous.
Seeings as Mitsu refurbished it free of charge a few months back i see no reason to change it. As i am the 2nd owner and the monitor was 2 years 9 months old i am NEC/Mitsu's biggest fan.

I still use a 19" CRT (Viewsonic P97f+SB) for gaming, although I've got a cheapo 15" TFT sat next to it which I use from time to time for more general web/apps use. I use one screen or the other btw, not both together. The CRT has an aperture grille diamondtron screen and has a lovely picture. It's got an extra bright mode for games too, which matches the brightness of my TFT.

I have to admit though, I'm still tempted to just get a good TFT (by which I mean MVA, PVA or IPS - can't stand the viewing angles on TN panels) to replace both screens and free up some desk space.

I do know quite a few other people who still use CRTs.

still using Dell P1110 (sony) 21" CRT monitor, 1600x1200 @ 100hz

i CANT find any TFT better than my CRT so far, got LG 19" TFT 12ms with spare PC, not good as Dell CRT

Same here mate. I bought my friends 2 year old Dell p1130 crt. It got only about 2 hours a day use at most. It's perfect, except for a small scratch along the side. But I am not complaining for 100 euro. I am thinking of switching to a Viewsonic VX922 for gaming, but what puts me off LCD's is the for some games you have to use vsync to stop tearing, and on LCD's this cuts the framerate in half even using tripple buffering. Then there is the risk of dead pixels, backlight bleed etc..

I use a dell 19"crt, they are so much cheaper and dont have native res or dead pixels (thank god) and dont limit everything to 60fps and the fact that the image is softer helps with jaggies, and of course they have richer colours and can produce pure blacks and have pretty much 180 degrees viewing angle. They just seem to give an all round better picture than a tft.

I still use a 19" Eizo CRT which I bought second hand about 3-4 years ago for £100. I play FPS games quite competitively and TFT's just can't compete. Only problem is I do get headaches fairly regularly after extended use :(

Well, i am reverting back to CRT after having 4 troublesome TFT's! Just can't afford to keep ordering one only to find it has issues with dead / lazy pixels or bad backlight bleed etc etc.

Tell me about it, ditched my 930SB for my Viewsonic 171b...worst mistake ever.

If i could buy a 930SB (new) id go back to it in a heartbeat, even though i didn't like the 2 wires.

For games, my 171 doesnt come close to the colour depth and vibrancy that the 930SB offered.....

BAHHHH!!!!....i want my CRT back.....BAHHHH!!!!!!

Well, I was a click away from buying a Viewsonic VX922, and decided to hold onto my Dell P1130 Trinitron 21". Besides having a slightly bigger viewable area (19.9"), I can run it at 1600x1200 at 100hz. So when gaming don't have any annoying vsync or potential ghosting issues. Wouldn't be able to do this on a 19" LCD. Also movie playback is perfect. Would not be on some of the faster LCD's.

I admit for windows use it is a bit harder on the eyes, but am used to a 1600x1200 desktop amd the 100hz helps, plus the brightness is pretty good on this tube. I did have a Dell 2405 FPW about 6 months ago which I had to sell. Although I noticed very little ghosting, I did have problems running Fear causing terrible tearing, and turning on vsync just killed the framerate. Generally I find the crt has more plus points then negative and will be sticking with it until it dies. It's only had 2-3 hours of use a day over the last 2 years, so it should have a good year of constant use in it yet. Only annoyance is slight buzzing, but that is more noticeable over pc being so quiet.

yeh i get this on one of mine, however the other is silent, i wonder what it is? The one that buzzes is the older of the two, so maybe that has something to do with it...

The buzzing changes pitch when I maximise a window, and when not maximised it is hardly noticeable. Oh well...I can live with. Beats having a bunch of dead pixels anyday.

stuck here with a crappy iiyama 17in crt @ 1280x960 70hz. i can't really justify the outlay for a tft when there is nothing wrong with what i have now. maybe i'll have to drop it or something..... :p

All my CRT's work perfectly well. I can't see the point of forking out hundreds of pounds just to clear a bit of desk space for something a bit more fashionable that nobody ever sees.

Why does their have to be something wrong with it? I've never replaced a monitor because there was something wrong (well not my own anyway) more like because I felt like it :p
