Do you pull over for motorcyclists?

The A word

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear (sorry pretty tired and had a really bad day!).

I'm not one for tailgating, hate it, hate it when people do it to me - I'll slow down even if I'm speeding.

I essentially meant if the biker behind me is driving right in my boot, it's happened I don't like it - pressure like that makes me uneasy so I'll react to it.

I see, that's kind of what I was trying to describe in my reply, not very well though :p

If a bike is tailgating at speed, then I agree, idiot. But at lower speed, I personally find I often end up riding close to the car in front, and I am conscious that he/she my be thinking I'm tailgating; but I'm just trying to keep moving to stay balanced.

When I'm in the car, I hate it when you get the 50cc 'peds hanging off your rear bumper, that makes me  But then again, he/she could just be doing the same as me on my bike.

As for slowing on tailgating cars, that is one of my joys of being of four wheels :D

Scort.

...Maybe in traffic but not if its just a normal overtake as they should be on the other side of the road anyway.

Having spent a lot of time out riding Pillion with my dad, now im driving myself I always pull as far to the left, when its safe to do so, to let bikers past.

Ive seen some idiots deliberately driving upto the white line to stop bikes getting past, that said ive also seen some bikers undertake drivers doing this, which is pretty damn stupid also.

I dont understand the attitude, "ive got to sit in traffic, so why shouldnt bikes" whats that all about?

i treat bikes like i do cars when they are wanting to overtake me. if it is safe for me to give them more space to make their move then i will. if not then i wont.

I am very tempted to be honest, I had a quick blat on an old Ninja a while back and it was grin inducing to say the least. I am stunned at how much bike you get for the money these days, and it would probably halve the time to take me to get to work, especially in the summer.

However, since I stopped riding I have the added responsibility of a wife and a young daughter to consider, and I know my mum stressed massively when I was into bikes, so it's a difficult decision.
Fortunately, my family have been generally ok with it, I don't have kids and the gf doesn't mind. What made you stop riding?

I was in a similar boat. I sold my Gixer about 3-4 years ago when my son was young, but have been desperate for another bike for the last couple years. Unfortunately finances (mortgage) & saving for a wedding at the time wouldn't allow.

So I bought an NSR250 cheap off eBay without telling the missus, which is still a W.I.P. :p

Then my missus got a new job, so needed transport, luckily my old man gave me his Fazer 600. Not my cup of tea, but it's been a great bike for my 50 mile round daily commute. Been really surprised by how good it's been tbh.

Can't wait for my NSR to be finished though....just have to keep it at my old mans ;)

I find people riding tourers aren't so eager to acknowledge people on sportsbikes and street bikes so much, I get more nods from that sort of rider now I'm on the fazer because it's bigger, more upright, and has a topbox, and sportsbike riders still give me the nod because it looks a lot like a big upright R1 (which it basically is).

I also find having the topbox on makes a lot more people try to do me off the lights, because they can't seem to comprehend a bike with a topbox and luggage rack on, with me sitting on it bolt upright, wil be fast. They soon learn :D

haha, yeah I get that too. The tiger doesnt look quick at all with its tall suspension etc, especially when I have the top box on, which I do a lot because its so damned handy. Loads of cars try to do me away from the lights, not realising its still a 900cc bike with a sub 4 second 0-60 time

As for nodding, I nod to everyone, even L platers (buit not scooters). Mostly get nods back too.

I Nod to everyone, get waves from fellow gixer riders :D only time i usually get tourers nodding or thumbs up to me is when its raining or really cold lol when they realize im not some sunday rider :p

In the car when I see a bike I move out of the way as far as it is safe to do so.

On the bike I'll try to say thanks, but on the commute to work it isn't really practical to take my hand off the bars.

I'll nod to bikes, even the occasional ped.

As for saying thanks I think it'd be easier the have an LED light thing on the vest operated by a switch on the bars. :)

Crawling through traffic yes, doing a decent speed no.

The amount of times I've had people infront of me dive into the verge shooting dust, stones, roadkill into the road and over my motor

Depends on the situation.

If he's shifting, or im going very slowly (say in a remote area of scotland with a blind bend every few metres) then i'll pull over. If its an idiot in a moped or something, then no.
