Do you pull over for motorcyclists?

As an (ex) biker I do all I can to help bikes get past me safely, and usually get a thumbs up or a wave from the biker. I do object to BMW (car) drivers trying to filter through motorways traffic jams however... :D

it can be hard to wave thanks when your squeezing through gaps whilst changing gear etc but trust me it is appreciated

If you are having to squeeze through a gap then you cant be filtering safely, the number of bikers ive seen almost get wiped out by filtering dangerously is amazing, i would say about 1 in 20 bikes i see filtering are doing so safely and without breaking the law.

Would you not consider becoming a biker again?

i ride over 46 mles a day every day from old street ( city of london ) to maidstone in kent, and have done for nearly a year, i have several shades of van paint down my leathers ( mainly on the arms ) and scores of wing mirrors to my name, if half the drivers i filterd past were awake and driving like sensible normal road users then there wouldnt be a problem.... yes there are a good share of numpties on bikes but the vast majority of car drivers are blinkerd to anything smaller than themselvs on the road... yes we do dash through gaps but trust me if the gap wasnt big enough we wouldnt go for it as the majority of us do acctually value arms legs etc.. just because you cant squeese your car through doesnt mean its not safe for bikes

why should they need to over take when everyone else has to queue
Main reason it doesn't bother me them going past me is because they aren't taking up the space of a car, they can make progress if you let them by and the car driver behind the bike (who can't obviously overtake the bike) will be happier one place further up the queue, etc. :)

I don't block them, I just don't go out of my way to pull over for them, if they can filter past without bothering me too much then fair play :) .
Yeah, I don't drive off the road or anything to let them past (as you would with an emergency vehicle) but if I can safely drive right on the edge of the road without risking damage to my car then I will.

I should mention that whenever I pull over I make a point of making it obvious that I'm doing it. If you sortof just drifted slowly off to the left, or worse still indicated in the middle of nowhere then a biker (or anyone) might think you're pulling over, or falling asleep at the wheel, or something. I don't veer to the left, but it's obvious to the biker behind that I'm doing it on purpose to let him/her by. I've always got an acknowledgement from it.

Most of the time yes.

One thing that does irritate me though is when they pull up next to you between two lanes at the lights, assuming they will be pulling away quicker. a lot of the time that wasn't the case when I had the RX7, and I'd have to actually back-off to let them in. Very annoying.

I would have thought it was obvious I was talking about stuff of less than around 600cc...

I'm under no impression it was quicker than a 'busa FFS

First you say if the gap wasnt big enough you wouldnt go for it then you say you have hit lots of cars, if you hit a car then the gap wasnt big enough its that simple.

You'd be surprised how fast his RX7 was you know ;) I've been given a run for my money a few times by some rather sorted cars and yet I still have 500bhp/tonne on a bike. To get that sub 4s launch on a bike takes some skill you know, and a lot of tricked up cars can do sub 5s launches now and unless you're on the ball it will take a bike by surprise.

I admit though 99/100 times this is unlikely! You just don't know what Drexel's like! ;) :p

I pull over, but i do ride myslef so its nice when people do for me, i always thank them unless i require both my hands at the time.

I dont mind if people dont as a short straight and your by anyway, unless you get a d**k in a jag like i did once and tried to cut me up.

Regards
Lee

Yep, that's true, 99% of the time it's a safe assumption, but it was as if the bikers think their right to make progress was more important than my own.

If I'm honest though it was probably more of an ego thing on my part ;)

I drive a clapped out old ZX12r and never had trouble at any lights at all, or with RX7s tbh ;)

Just about any bike if not driven by a fool can get away safe and fast from lights and not slow up traffic.... just the odd nutter in a 'fast' car will think it's some kind of race. (one that if the bike was 'racing' would no doubt win...)

When I see a fast car try and sprint from the lights it just makes me laugh and I let them tear away....

edit: once had a car full of lads open rear door on me for fun as I filtered past... had to emergency stop. Must admit rage then got me and I put bike on stand in middle of traffic queue and went slightly berserk. :(

Yeah I do but I used to be a biker and used to appreciate it when cars did it for me. I used to wave thanks, very few do it to me now but I dont care that much :)

..stuff..

See my post above yours.

I don't want to get into the whole bike-vs-car debate, but suffice to say my car was far from standard and surprised a few bikes ;)

Anyway enough of that as it's going off topic.

its usually because they havent seen me ( on a bright orange buell with twin hid's ) or heard me ( with a straight through 110bd buell race can) and decide to drift over whilst im in between them..... trust me i know when the gaps big enough and when it isnt...:D
