My mistake - it is the new apple box. Please completely disregard my previous ramblings. (However potential purchasers of the Apple 4K are warned).
In general, if you do not make much use of Prime delivery, then the Prime service is not worth it.
There are a few good shows as noted by others, but beyond that you find the shows you would want to watch have to be paid for per episode/season

I would say Amazon are on par with Netflix for TV shows, especially the Amazon Original/Netflix Originals. A lot you won't have heard of, so it's just a case of giving them a go and seeing what they're like.
Haven't watched many films on Amazon though, say that though, i haven't seen many films on Netflix either. I think both generally have a pretty poor selection.
I had Prime only for about a year, and was pretty happy with it. Then got Netflix about a year ago, as Mrs Cheesyboy wanted to watch The Crown. I now watch probably 10:1 in favour of Netflix.
To be fair, I only watch about 4 hours a week, so when I start a series (or even a movie, which will take 2-3 evenings), I'm tied to that service for a while.

When did they stop doing weekend deliveries, I get next day 7 days a week on Prime listed items.

They haven't and they won't. Deliveries are still 7 days a week, including most bank holidays usually as well.

You may be lucky to still receive weekend deliveries in London but ya not clever to use your situation as fact for an entire country..
Where I live in the NW they are no longer a thing. If I order on Thursday evening it’ll arrive on Monday.
Sucks if that is the case for you - I live way down in the South West and still receive weekend deliveries - had some headphones delivered on the 16th December and an Amazon Pantry order on the 3rd of December for instance.
Check your delivery settings allow for weekend deliveries. I wondered this some time ago and found a menu somewhere in my account that had Sat/Sun unticked for delivery.
I even have same day options on Sundays now.
Halt and Catch Fire was the last show I binge watched. It's good, but I have no idea why I was so compelled to watch one after another.

Yeah it’s shocking, mainly because amazon are picking and choosing where they use this policy.
On the plus side it makes buying things harder/slower and on the whole the family is spending less money as they’re thinking more about the purchase because they know it is likely to take a while to arrive.
Weekend deliveries were vital because the family work long hours through the week and so were never home when deliveries are made, apart from the weekend..
I thought this might be the case so I got in touch with amazon and they said no weekend deliveries is a trial, I suspect they’re trying it with an ‘insignificant’ part of the country before they decide if they’ll roll it out en mass

I still get weekend deliveries. Sometimes same-day too, if the item is eligible.
As for Amazon Video, I get a reasonable amount of use from it but the selection is definitely not on the same level as Netflix. It's not helped by the awful interface and the fact it's cluttered with stuff they want you to pay for too, there are some decent "hidden" gems in there if you look. I noticed Haven on there the other day which is a great show. It's also much harder to see what's been recently added, and they seem to be filling it with a lot of utter tripe at the moment (Minecraft videos etc).

Then I would check your account and addresses, as each address has an option to turn on and off saturday and sunday deliveries.
My home address will deliver on weekends, but my work address wont as the Sat/Sun options are turned off on that address.
I have also just setup a new address on my account based in Manchester (so NW) and can get deliveries on all 7 days of the week (checked using nominated delivery day).
I use it for stuff like Bosch, Preacher and Mr Robot, but I do find the interface really poor (if you use the bog standard Smart TV app without voice control) as you enter the name of a series and it doesn't return results that include the 4k version even if you put '4k' or 'UHD' in the search criteria...
Also, I wish it would take the Netflix direction where it buffers a little at the beginning to start it off in the best quality rather than getting better within the first minute or two. Their streaming network performance seems pretty pants in comparison with Netflix so I don't understand this approach.

I live in deepest darkest East Sussex in village of 2500 where they haven't even introduced dual carriageways (much) and I still get next day, 7 days a week deliveries. What is your location?

Oddly enough I have the opposite experience; Netflix for me takes an age to get to 1080p, whereas Amazon takes about 10-15 seconds. In Netflix I usually have to start watching something then restart it to get it to go full HD.
