do you work on your own car.

Nope, I now buy cars with reliability and cheap parts at mind. Anything more than washer fill up/tyres, I leave to a competent person.

Yes.

I've taken a sump off too, from a 999cc Uno, had to smash it, it was dented rusty and weeping anyway. After the new one it kept oil clean for hundreds of miles.

I've done a few small things, like cleaning idle fuel valve, replacing oil filter & oil, draining and replacing coolant, brake disc change.

I'd love to have a second cheap car, like an old mx5 or an old corvette to have a proper tinker with.

I've done the last service (including plugs, diff oil, gearbox oil etc) on my S2000 + changed discs and pads myself.

Saved about 500+ in a year just by doing simple easy tasks on my car myself!

Very easy, and to be honest i trust myself more than some 17 year old trainee in a garage!

If its going to be expensive, yes.
If its something a trained chimp can do and it means I dont have to get dirty, then no.

I do everything bar body repair atm and I'm currently learning to weld so I should be on top of that once I get my own gear.

I do absolutely everything on the Baja. I've rebuilt the engine, modified the suspension, done all the bodywork, welded new floor in, welded new seat mounts, replaced electrics. I'm currently saving up for a tube bender and drill press so I can start building a custom raised front suspension and roll cage.

I do nothing on the Fiesta. Not that I couldn't, but I prefer to spend my time working on something 'fun' instead of a tool to do a job.

Always do my own stuff, tyre pressures to rebuild, conversions, hybrids and on and on.
when Ive got time these days though. Currently doing a engine rebuild.
I grudge paying someone to do something I can do myself.

surely you wont need to touch the fiesta as its a new one :O
All cars need servicing. But it wont be done by my hands. Instead I'll pay someone £150 to change an air, oil and pollen filter, stamp the book and reset the service schedule on the computer.

I've done every thing from top end rebuilds to gear boxes manual and auto.

I have no training, but if some of these monkeys in garages can do it I'm sure as hell going to give it a go....

although I'm not too happy with doing body work, painting that is, Although My dad can do it , maybe I should get him to teach me....( he's built his own cars before) well two a citreon GS pick up and a GS derived two seater sports car, oh and currently rebuilding a panhard.....

pity he lives so far away. he has a workshop that would be so nice during the winter(It's heated)

bullit

I have done in the past, ranging from oil changes to full engine/gearbox rebuilds and 'classic' car restoration (mainly old series Landrovers), will do again once I get some comfy environment to do it in (the side of the road or a sloping cold driveway is not comfy).

However, for my primary transport, I usually use a garage, that way there is someone to shout at if it goes wrong :)

I do now :D Never used to, but i try my best when i need or want to improve something. This time 2 years ago i had never really done much except sparks and filters!

Done radiator, cooling fan, thermostat, camshaft cover, fuel filter, exhaust (downpipe to backbox), wiper motor...

Anything that goes wrong, im now willing to try :) Most modes of car have a forum or 2 on the web, so lots of info and help can be had there to get you on track or even help if you manage to do some damage! lol

I wish I could but I don't even have a drive, never mind a garage or any tools so I would be lying in the road in the rain.

If I had all these things I would probably give it a go, but that combined with my lack of knowledge just makes it easier to pay someone.
