do you work on your own car.

I do everything I can bar stuff which is so irritating/difficult/tiring to do you might as well pay someone to do it, stuff which requires specialist tools (bush pressing etc) and some stuff where the risk of getting it wrong outweighs the benefits of doing it on the cheap.

Also anything seized beyond buggery goes to the garage. They have better tools to tackle such stuff and they can shear it off and sweat over sorting it ;)

Not strictly scared of doing anything - currently helping a mate rebuild his SR20DET and put it back in.

Yep most jobs I'll do. Not keen on fiddly things like brake pipes, but regular servicing and repairs, yep!

I haven't even seen the engine in the Boxster yet. Porsche make it so hard to get to that it's easier just to take it to a specialist.

All I do nowadays is wash it, change stereos and that's about it these days.

does yours have squeaky bushes yet? i promise thats something you can do yourself, if you take it to your OH PEE SEE youll get charged about £500 each end of the car

Do what I can, but normally with help from my father who is the man with the tools, garage, and know how.

Really need to know more, and would love to rebuild an engine.

When I get a decent car!

I'll have a go at a few things.

Serviced the Octavia last time it needed doing including oil, filters, spark plugs. It made it easier that I could use the full garage facilities at work due to being enrolled on an evening course.

I've sorted the secondary airpump and cleaned the throttlebody recently, but its a pain not having anywhere particularly suitable to do most things.

I've done everything to my R19 16V apart from the welding, but I supervised that, although I still have a half developed engine in the livingroom still.

BMW, I've been more inclined to just drop it off and let other people look at it for some reason.

I'll do smaller jobs, brakes and the like. I'm probably capable of doing more, but the only repair this car's needed has been a clutch+flywheel which is way out of range of my ability and tools :)
I live next door to a friendly indy garage and I need to drive to parents' house to use the drive/tools if I want to do some work myself, so its a bit of a no brainer

Nope, all feels solid and squeak free. Only issue I have is a slight rattle behind my head but I think I know what it is so will have a look at the weekend (OPC said they'd fix it for free anyway so if I can't find it I'll drop it off there while I test drive a 911)

my sister's had a rattled by the rear screen. it was a plastic cover over part of the roll bars. removed and refitted it with some rubber washers to remove and play and no more rattle

hers had a terracota coloured interior and it was lovely

Do those that do their own work all have garages? I've never done any of my own work, because I don't have a garage, but I'm just wondering how rubbish an excuse that is!

Nope, got a garage at home but its only a single one so too small. A flat driveway is fine - although it restricts you a bit with weather!

I've got a garage (actually I've got 2 as I've recently rented a lock up to store the sprint car in over winter) but it's basically just somewhere to keep my tools and parts and I do everything out on the driveway. Modern garages are way too small to actually do any work in them.

As much as I can...which basically means yes, everything bar fitting tyres. :)

So true, modern ones are just for storing the car...sometimes even that's an issue and they are then just a shed with a big entrance door.

I'm glad I have use of the large 2 car garage back home when I need it. :)

Yes, where equipment and knowledge permits (If it requires an expensive tool often its cheaper and easier just to pop it in a garage)
