DOA4 Rant

I mostly got this game for the Mplayer side of things although i was addicted to survival mode i hosted a few games for people from here and there was no lag at all.

Soon as i get a 360 again this game will be at the top of my buy list..

i played it 2day in gamestation and it was completely unimpressed, i love street fighter 2 and liked tekken mortal kombat etc, but this just wasnt fun

You see, I'd say it's the most fun I've had on a fighting game, as it's actually difficult, but when you start getting it right it's such a buzz, whereas Tekken was just a simple fighting game. Soul Calibur was close, but it used content in the game features over fighting mechanics. Team Ninja go for game mechanics first, and as a result have a very solid fighting game.

If you love a challenge and the buzz of feeling like you have conquered a character there is no better game.

Except for maybe fighters megamix.

I have that! I sold my Saturn, and forgot i had it so it didn't go with it. I'm seriously thinking of getting another Saturn just to play it.

I think i still prefer the Virtua Fighter 2 onwards series over the DoA series. I still think you need to be clairvoyant to be able to win on DoA4.

Back on topic slightly...

Spent best part of 5 hours tonight on this. Still find it incredible on how 20 straight wins in survival is possible, and I was always under the impression I had pretty quick reflexes and still can't see how countering involves skill rather than sheer luck.

But...

It is addictive I'll give it that.

I've finished all the story modes and I have to agree with Bigpops; lol. I know I need to go to sparring and practice counters etc, it's just it's not that fun ;) and bit too much like work.

Even though I do block I don't think I'm fully getting it right, does it matter where I'm pointing the controller? As for counters, lol, I think I understand what I need to do but I'll be bugge... err, have no chance of pulling them off under the pressure of a fight. And as for grabs; I can probably count on one hand the number that weren't countered in the whole of the story mode.

I mainly bought the game as a kind of party game; also the wife likes to beat me up (well she can dream) and it pulls this off well (Soul Calibre 2 was the XBox beat-em-up of choice for this).

But; if someone could recap what exactly I need to do to counter again ;) I would be grateful. :)

Answered my own question.

For countering punches you press the straight opposite direction from your opponent and press X. For countering kicks you press the straight forward direction from your opponent and press X.

Edit: Also read on the xbox forums; you can't hold in a direction and spam X for a counter. You need to reapply the direction for each attempt.

Played the game last night again for around 45 minutes and it is getting really quite easier... can now get to the boss in story mode without losing a round even with the characters I had never been before, once you get the hang of the counters then it becomes a whole lot easier. Now only got to complete the Story mode with Helena and the Time attack mode with everyone

I must say I am enjoying the challenge of this even though it can be VERY frustrating!!!

Nearly all the story modes completed and I got a rank of 4400 or something on Survival, 20 is easy but the difficulty seems to ramp up and you hit the 1 char who can amazingly pull off 2 straight 10 hit combos and kill you without you hitting him..

More practice required methinks.
