Hey Guys,

So I did a clean install of windows 7 on my ssd today, and decided to move the documents/downloads/music folders etc. to my HDD to save the SSD space.

So firstly I did the Downloads folder, properties, move, then selected my D: drive and made a new folder and moved it. I then moved all the other folders there too. However when I checked on my D: drive the folder I made (named User files) was not there... Just the "My downloads" folder

I went into my libraries to view all the folders such as Downloads, Favourites, Music etc. and all the folders I moved are not there, well they are, but they are all named "My downloads" and all have exactly the same files in!

Does anybody know what has happened or how to fix it???

Thanks :)

Nice screenshot for you all :p

change to details view, right click the column headers>more... and add a path column

now you can see where they're all pointing to. edit the properties if you need to.

When you moved them did you move them all to x:\new user folder\ or to x:\new user folder\documents, x:\new user folder\downloads, etc?

It sounds like you did the former and you've moved all your folders to the root of the new user folder on your data drive.

I tried editing their paths in the properties menu but it won't let me move them :(

Not sure, never done it myself.

If it won't let you "move" from the folder properties, there are registry keys you can change. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Just not sure how successful it will be...

you can reset the bodged up settings. this remove any settings/files tied to the account.

create a new admin account and logon with that (make sure you logout out of your normal account).

start>search>sysdm.cpl

click the advanced tab and then user profiles>settings. now select and delete the profile related to your account. now log back in with your account and everything should be back to normal.

Yup, easiest way to sort this is to start over. Copy the files you need to D:\Backup\Documents, D:\Backup\Photos etc etc.

Then create a new user account, login to that, do what marc2003 said above to fully remove the account. Then create that old account again if you're fussy about the username

Ok thanks guys, ill try this.

There are not many files I want to keep, none in my documents and downloads anyway; I just want to keep all my files in the "Program Files" folder on my HDD. How would I back these up?
