So this is a concept that has been mentioned by Dodge as a very strong possibility, i'm not sure about its engine though, it's the same massive Challenger but with wider arches.

this sounds stupid to be, the Challenger is a Classic RWD muscle car only, it has totally the wrong body shape, the correct shape is much more like their latest Dodge Dart 4 door.........or a Subaru/Evo etc

they're trying to improve its poor road holding, without loosing it's identity, but its identity is that of a RWD tyre smoking muscle/Drag car.:eek:

this looks like one massive mistake

What?

The Challenger is effectively a 2 door Charger, a car which is already available with AWD if you wish. Don't see the big deal.

I would have thought more relevant was the part saying that the AWD version only comes with a v6.

Personally I've always thought that the point to the Challenger is about road presence, feel good factor and the v8 under the bonnet. AWD seems a complete waste of effort to me.

Don't forget that much of North America gets a significant amount of snowfall in winter - in some of the Northern states AWD cars outsell RWD ones by a significant margin. Almost every BMW you see in Vermont or New Hampshire is an XDrive model.

I get that, I really do. However, the compromise of taking the AWD is the loss of one of the key reasons for owning the Challenger, i.e. the v8. Once you've got to that point, might aswell go buy an SUV.

I thought I saw something the other day saying a AWD Hellcat was coming?

Maybe just a rumour.

Nope. It was journalists mangling two pieces of news. First - an all-wheel drive Challenger GT V6 is coming. Second - a widebody version of the Hellcat with potentially even more power but retaining RWD called the Challenger ADR is coming. The widebody idea is to get a bit more tyre footprint underneath the car.

That's true in this country because they're a rare sight, but in the US it's like the Mustang, most will be the basic/V6 model as they're just daily transport, and so they're offering 4WD for the "normal" model for traction purposes where there's snow. The muscle versions will still be muscle cars as you'd hope and expect, and because they're bought as muscle cars, not daily hacks.

Pointless and will only come with a V6, waste of time, Americans who need all weather ability also have a truck.

Challenger will get good potentially in 2019 when its built on the new platform which is 500lbs lighter and has debuted in the fantastic Alfa Guilia whatever its called that drives superb, if new Challenger drives remotely as well it will be great. Then they just need to plonk the steering wheel on the right and happy days, otherwise its a mute point.

In other news tonight I went out in my friends Mustang who just finished his Whipple install with over 700 horsepower. The performance is beyond insane and even better it puts every bit of that power to the tarmac without issue, its frightening fast and turns your stomach. :D

Well no, otherwise AWD versions of normally RWD cars wouldn't sell well - yet they do, infact most 535's you'll see in the North Eastern US are 535Xi models for example.

AWD is a very favoured option for people in these states. I'd imagine the Challenger V6 AWD will sell well to those after a sporty looking Coupe with about 300bhp and all weather usefulness.

I agree with what your saying completely.

If Dodge need to do anything is research how to get the AWD fit in a car like the Hellcat as it simply cannot put its power down so would be great to have a Hellcat AWD with of course even more power. :D

Makes perfect sense, especially with the number of new Mustangs being crashed in this country already.

I drove down the A43 by Brackley a last week to see one had come off a roundabout and ended backwards in a verge on a hot sunny day. I was discussing it with a customer that was a police officer as we got talking about cars and he's already been to 3 RTCs involving mustangs

There are very few new US cars worth having to be honest. Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, Corvette. Thats about it.

Those are the ones that the EU/UK wants though. Be great to have them all in RHD including the special, limited and high power models.
