Does AHCI provide hotswapping?

All my drives are in a hotswap bay in my Lian Li case. I can pull them out readily but currently need to reboot to see the changes.

I am installing an SSD this weekend, will the change to AHCI in the bios facilitate the hotswap changes without rebooting?

I have a Gigabyte 890 series board with all 6MB/s ports.

Thanks, andy.

OK, thanks vector I have now tested it works

I am migrating the family PC spec below to an SSD. To do this painlessly, I have two hard disks and an ssd in hotswap bays.

One hard disk has current windows on and the SSD has a new windows installation. 2nd hard disk will have new program files to go with the SSD.

Until I get new windows fully operational, I can use 2nd hard disk as common to both OS to transfer data and I can pull either OS during restart or hotplug one or the other with one OS working.

So far no errors and I still have two separate systems.
I cannot clone as my old boot drive is bigger than the SSD. I may just store old windows hard disk as an emergency hotplug installation when done.
