Does anyone here still use a single core pc?

It's a h67 board so there's really no point in going for the unlocked chip. Go for the p67 version instead

Aaah but you get the integrated graphics though. And a little turbo boost. Should be fine for me.

Then get a P67 board and a graphics card when BF3 comes out :)

I have a sepron 140 2.7ghz, 1GB kingston ram with a Nvidia 6200 Le and its a perfect low cost rig. I runs vista 64 no bother at all. For the cost i can leave it on 24/7 without thinkning of the lecci bill :)

Pointless. Would be cheaper to buy an old GPU with a P67 motherboard now, then buy a good GPU later, than it would be to swap from H67 to P67 + GPU.

Or you could wait for Z68 of course.

My old athlon 64 3000+ @ 2ghz is still working, coupled with 1gb of ram and an ati 1650 pro! Good ol' times...

And to be honest it doesn't run windows 7 that* bad.

*totally subjective. :p

My pc has a Athlon 64 3400 @ 2.4 GHz and a x1950 pro. It runs vista fine and some older games. Probably upgrade later this year to bulldozer though (if its decent). :)

In the immediate family there were/are the following.

P4/1.7 1.25mb USB1.1 - just upgraded to P4/2.8/2GB/USB2
P4/1.7/256mb USB1.1 - just upgraded to Dual Core C 1.8/2GB/USB2
Laptop Celeron M380- 1.6 - 1GB - just upgraded to 2GB

TBH the upgraded machines are fine for web and general use. But they only got upgraded because I got fed up supporting the old machines and refused to support them unless they upgraded to something better. A lot of the current AV applications, were just killing the older machine. MSE seems a lot lighter than AVG.

At work I've been using a Single Core 2.4 Xeon (dual CPU) workstation for development for about 6 yrs. We've about 20 similar machines in the office. Most of the machines in the rest of the building would be SC P4's. Slowly upgrading them to Dell T7500's.

im still using a single core a64 [email protected], i dont find it slow at all. last game i played was L4D whilst the same machine ran a dedicated server and was fully playable for all of us!!
its 4years old nearly and its mostly used for web/music/bf2. i might keep it another year and buy the best i can again and wait another 4years :P
oh n i tried a dual 2500mhz in this pc before and it wasnt any better, infact it felt slower overall :/

I still use a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ on my main PC. So its not even a fast single core. Clocks at 1.6ghz I think. Can be horrendously slow when attempting to multitask. Currently looking to get a new PC :) hehe

Using an Atom in the little Netbook I'm tying this on. Main machine is an i3 550 dual core and I love it. I was just watching the missus using it (she's an illustrator /designer) and she was running Photoshop and Illustrator together, throwing big files around, and the machine didn't even break a sweat. For the price the chip cost it's mind-blowing. I really don't see why she would need a quad core....and she would probably be classed as a power user. She is using WinXP though....maybe that helps :)

I still have an xp3000....although it's now sat in it's box as I forgot to sell it when I sold my old Shuttle about a year and a half ago lol

My work PC (old PC custom made from donated left-over parts) is the entry level AMD 3400+ 2.2GHz NewCastle @1.4v (754 Sempron, 64-bit enabled, 128KB L1 cache, 256KB L2 cache, single channel memory).

I've checked and it came out in 2004 even though I thought it was released 2 years earlier because of how poor it is with games, etc. Its very nippy at booting XP Pro to desktop, takes just 20 seconds on a budget 500GB 7,200rpm HDD.
