Does anyone here work at the pictures (cinama)?

Yeah 15 mins late is usually safe.

Only go to odeon here now as when went to cineworld it was so cold had to wear a coat. That's a nope from me.

Also. Have 6 free tickets a year from lloyds bank. I went to the cinema 3 times last year with my gf. And one of those was just to use the tickets. Not many films worth seeing now unfortunately.

My point about films not worth seeing. Either remakes (99% are rubbish) sequels from films made 10+ years ago or superheroes stuff. Or really crap

Don’t you have an independent cinema near you? If not it’s probably worth the trek. Saying the above is a bit like just going to chain restaurants and proclaiming all restaurants are rubbish. Funnily enough people don’t do that even if all they have on their local high street is a pizza express and wagamamas.

Movies in the past couple of years has been dry, partly due to the pandemic, but party due to the squeeze in the middle. A lot of middle budget movies are lost, there are fewer comedies for example. The studios now either throw 300 mil at a big SFX movie or people try something relatively cheap, like horror movie - Winnie the Poo horror movie anyone?

I do like the cinema though, i go mostly for the big ones, like Top Gun, Avatar, and John Wick 4, movies where the size of the screen is a larger part of the experience. I don't have Odeon Limitless now since the pandemic so don't watch everything under the sun.

As for my local indepdent place, lol the seats are so small my knees are pushed against the seat in front, and i am not that tall.

Problem is now we have everything at our finger tips. Going in to watch the trailers was amazing back in the day because you couldn't see them anywhere else. I always like to make a night of the cinema so always like to get in early.

Yeah I use my tickets mainly for Imax. If its not a spectacle I'm not paying for the cinema.

Imax costs 5 pounds a person with the free standard tickets. Which isn't too bad.
But I wouldn't pay full price for any film now. You're looking at nearly 30 pounds per couple at Imax. No films now are worth that. If I didn't have the discount I simply wouldn't go

Can't stand super hero stuff. Next one I'll probably see is guardians 3.but only if this year's free tickets come through.

thought thread was going to be about blu ray encryption cinavia, rather high brow for gd;
like LP's maybe they are on the ascendant with shrinkflation on streaming bitrates, and cinema prices/quality.

Watching at home is all well and good but I find (or did find) something special about the cinema experience. If you're watching a comedy and in a packed auditorium for example, it can amplify the humour.

I remember going to see films like Cabin in the Woods and The Wolf of Wall Street on a weeknight evening and it was packed. A great experience. I was going around 25-30 times a year back then. 10+ years since those films came out and unfortunately it's more like 1-2 times per year now. There's not many even passable films being made now.

We go to the cinema 2-3 times a month.

Rarely any more than 20 people in a screening, although we did see Honor Among Thieves in iMAX on its opening night and that was very busy - most we have seen in a screen for years.

Have to say, the film options have been very poor the last couple of years after the knock on effects of COVID, although seem to be at least starting to get better now. I am not one for Marvel films, but they have pretty much been the only thing keeping the cinemas open since 2020 really.

Showing my age but we used to pay for a u cert then sneak into a Bruce lee film or confessions of a whatever when we were brats, rebels or what

Can’t imagine going to the cinema again. Not much worth seeing, overpriced everything. I guess times change now we can have everything on demand and pretty epic setups at home.
yeah, that is a another point. They say that you cannot bring food and drink in that you have not purchased from the cinema (despite the fact everyone I know does) and the food and drink they offer you is priced at like 300.00% of normal retail price. i got charged like 2.99 for a small bottle of water.

Rarely go to the cinema these days, too expensive and I have a pretty good surround system at home, also not sure if this make me officially old but its too damn loud. I loved going to the cinema in the 80/90s when I was younger, I don't know how much of that is down to the cinema experience or just because a new film came out. These days movies are so much more accessible.
