Does anyone name there rig?

Its got a name on the network, i've got around 7 things on the network (3 physicals 4 virtual) The wireless network follows the same naming scheme. They are all named after Dido class Anti Aircraft cruisers.

Out sad that one. I dare you.

A lot of mine are named after Culture novels. Excession, Windward, Weapons etc! :p

My WiFi used to be called SleeperService.

My girlfriend names everything

My little netbook is called Sid (as its Samsung) and my previous blue MSI Wind was called Billy, she has a white netbook which she calls Wendy.

Otherwise machine names for networking is PaulyD-PC and PaulyD-netbook - simple.

All the computers in our network are named after Star Trek ships.
Mine is called Thunderchild, Mum's is called Voyager, Laptops called Defiant, Ipod called delta flyer etc etc you get the idea.

I called mine trent after the plane engine as it was by far the loudest rig I have ever heard. As you can tell I am a plane fanatic!

Only the hard drives, not the machine itself.

your D drive name is sooo being stolen :D

I am pretty sure we had two servers that were used and then decommissioned in work just before I joined two years ago, they were test servers more than anything, however one was called Tinkie Winkie and one was called Dipsy :D

You can see all the batch script, network shares and everything else with reference to teletubbies names :)

Only usually use childish names like poopoo or ****y, when 1st installing windows, I assume this is what people refer to as the network name? Otherwise I refer to it as the PC. Never really thought about naming drives but don't really see the point.

Our wireless network is childishly named too, why not?

Can someone change there to their please? :( *cries*

It's just "the computer", "the laptop" and "the server". But machines are given particular names to identify them on the network. Usually by physical attributes or what they are. iMac, MBP, TimeCapsule, Blackbox, PS3 and server. Prior to that naming convention I had the router broadcast as "TheBorg" and all the devices capable of connecting to it where called "x-of-Y". So my main machine was 1-of-9. But it got confusing when you couldn't remember which was which.

Mine was called Sandy when I recently re-built it (sandy bridge cpu) but now it's called Super Sandy (since adding a sandforce SSD)

It's all about the sand!
