What on earth am I missing. I swear my guns aren't the same as anyone else's. I can be perfectly still, prone, aiming down the scope on the L85 and firing 2-3 round bursts and watch them all hit the building around my target, then they drop prone and I see their muzzle flash and i'm dead before I see them fully lie down. Even when I do hit it takes like 5 or 6 rounds to kill a guy, but I always die in one hit.
You get better guns as you rank up, (look online for a weapons guide to see what you should upgrade when you get the option). bf2s is a decent site.
I favour the special ops class, accurate but not that powerfull, so it takes a few bullets to put someone down.
I like spec ops because some times its nice to run off on your own and slip past enemy lines, an use my C4 explosives to take out thier artillery guns and radar station.
Different classes have varying amounts of body amour also, so if your playing spec ops you cant take much damage.
Though a clean headshot will always take you down.
Check your ping times also when choosing a server, if you are on a server with high ping you will think you are hitting someone but in reality you are shooting thin air as the person could have moved but you wont know due to the delay. a ping of less than 30 is ideal.
many servers will kick you off if pings rise above 100 due to the issues it causes.
The learning curve is very steep for noobs, especially if you are new to multi-player FPS, you will get repeatedly pwned for a while and then it will just click - its a a rite of passage really, you just have to stick with it.
Karkand and wake island are probably good maps to begin with.
Also look out for 'noobs' servers.
Also get into a squad when you can, it give you an extra spawn point on the sqad leaders position, medics and support can heal you and refil your ammo, and you can spot enemies so they show up on your team mates radar, and vice versa.
Also use a headset so you can hear teammates strategy, iven if you dont talk at first, it will help you work as a team which gives you a massive advantage if the opposing side is not so organised.
Also, check the rules for the servers you are playing on, some servers are pretty much un-regulated which is a bit of a meat grinder for newcommers, where as som have active admins who put a stop to various foul-play such as bunny hopping and dolphin-diving (look them up).

Also bear in mind there are a lot of veteran players who will be able to own you, once you become reasonably competant, offline shooters against the computer will seem like shooting fish in a barrel.
There are lots of sites for tips and strategy which are different depending on what class you are playing, sniper, assault, medic etc.
A read of some guides will point you in the right direction and help you choose a class you can get on with.
Pepole say medic is good to begin with but ive always favored spec ops - especially one of the spec ops upgrade guns - its versatile for assault and mid/close range sniping.
If you see an enemy, the first thing to do is hit the deck and go prone, or move around a lot -if you are stood up still, you are a sitting duck.
There really is a lot of technique to learn with this game and thats what make it one of the most rewarding and best online FPS, but it takes time to get skill.
Once you get into it you will find youself shouting battle cries at the screen its that immersive!
