Does Battlefield 2 use Shader Model 3.0?

Just a quick question really. Does BF2 use shader model 3.0? I'm thinking of downgrading my PC and the one game I want to keep to battle against the gaming cravings is Battlefield 2. Its such a good fun game.

I was thinking of getting a 6800GT for my downgrade, but I might try and get a x850 XT if one comes up, but if BF2 uses SM 3 I might stick to the 6800GT.

Thanks.

Nope doesn't use 3.0 mate

I was running it on my old laptop, fair enough the settings were at the lowest of low, but it still ran. And thats quite old

Any reason your downgrading?

A 6800 will only really just be coping with BF2 in my experience. Something like an x1950 would be required for super smooth play.

Oh, and having 2 gig memory is more important than having a good graphics card with BF2 :D

6800GT should do fine in BF2 at 1280x1024, probably 1680x1050 if you're not using too much AA or AF.

Something like a 7800GT or a X1800XL or X1800XT could probably had for very little more in the second hand market though.

My old 6800 did very well in BF2 aslong as you don't turn the FSAA up too high... but it was clocked to ultra extreme performance...

I used to run BF2 on a 6800GT at 1280x1024

Ran great with 4xAA everything else on high (40+fps), anything over that and you start getting to below 30fps

Thanks for the quick replies.

Well I'm having a few problems with my eyes at the moment (dry eyes etc.) so looking at a monitor for long periods at a time isn't an option, plus I'm sort of getting a bit bored with gaming in general, so I might as well sell my rig and get some money for it instead of keeping it (keep an eye on MM for a 8800GT, 965P DS3, RAM + CPU + FAN, I'll be chucking them on soon).

Anyway, I'm chucking in my old 754 motherboard, so I need a card to play BF2. It will be coupled with a A64 3000 or thereabouts and 2 gig of DDR RAM. Previously played BF2with a 6800GT, but since upgrading It seems I was playing the game at a poor framerate and it flies along with my 8800GT, so I'm after a x850xt ideally, to up the framerates if possible. If I can't get an 850xt I'll get another 6800gt and lower the detail a bit.

Long live BF2!

The benefit of the 6800GT is the SM3.0 support, and many games require that, even if you're limited to low details its better to have it than not.

I only play BF2 now, I moved from a 6800GT to a 7800GT, then I moved to a X1900XTX, which was MUCH better than a 7800GT.

At 1280x I found anything less than a 7800GT starts to stutter when you had artillary dropped on your head, minimum framerate dropped down to below 20. The 6800GT worked ok on the original release, but over the years with all the patches it seems that the 6800GT would only really play at 1024x768 nowadays.

So the X850XT would be ok, but if you're a serious player and you want no problems, I'd get something with a little more umph.

I'd go for a X1800XL with a Zalman cooler tbh...oh wait, what do I have next to me... :P

lol, just check out the members market and put some add in the "wanted" section, I'm sure something will turn up ;)

I'm limited to AGP, should have said that at the beginning really, so my options are somewhat limited :(

Plus my CPU is at max A64 single core 3200, so anything above 6800GT/X850 XT might be overkill.

In an ideal world I'd say 'YES!' minstadave. but budget is quite limited so I might just go for a 6800gt off the bay. If a 850xt comes along I'd be interested, but they are quite rare at the mo and a bit more pricey.
