Does Battlefield 2 use Shader Model 3.0?

What about a 1650pro? Seen one for £38 new. How does that compare to a 6800gt/7600gt?

edit - just seem tomsharware charts and the 7600gt is a clear winner over the 1650pro.

Ta.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Well I'm having a few problems with my eyes at the moment (dry eyes etc.) so looking at a monitor for long periods at a time isn't an option, plus I'm sort of getting a bit bored with gaming in general, so I might as well sell my rig and get some money for it instead of keeping it (keep an eye on MM for a 8800GT, 965P DS3, RAM + CPU + FAN, I'll be chucking them on soon).

Anyway, I'm chucking in my old 754 motherboard, so I need a card to play BF2. It will be coupled with a A64 3000 or thereabouts and 2 gig of DDR RAM. Previously played BF2with a 6800GT, but since upgrading It seems I was playing the game at a poor framerate and it flies along with my 8800GT, so I'm after a x850xt ideally, to up the framerates if possible. If I can't get an 850xt I'll get another 6800gt and lower the detail a bit.

Long live BF2!

BF2 requires PS1.4 so any card above the GF4 will run it. I had an X800XT PE for a while and it completely blew away my 6600GT/6800GT on BF2 (didn't benchmark it but it was way smoother).

Just a quick question really. Does BF2 use shader model 3.0? I'm thinking of downgrading my PC and the one game I want to keep to battle against the gaming cravings is Battlefield 2. Its such a good fun game.

I was thinking of getting a 6800GT for my downgrade, but I might try and get a x850 XT if one comes up, but if BF2 uses SM 3 I might stick to the 6800GT.

Thanks.

I used to play BF2 fine on a 6800GT. I thought the 6800GT could do SM3 anyway?

okay let me just get in my two cents.

ive had a 6800ultra agp and it was the best card of its time. bf2 60fps+ no problem. ive also had a x1950pro agp (for sale guys if anyone wants) and that played it okay (this was when i had a meer p4 2.6ghz, agpx4 etc) so id recommend picking up either of the above to cards as your on agp. also check your psu specs for me please.

now i have a core2/pcie system and have had a 8600gts which ran it fine but started artifacting and broke down so i have just started to use a bfg 7800 gt oc edition. yet to try it on bf2 but it should run fine with all high 4x aa and 4xaf like my old 8600gts.

for the OPs original question i believe it uses sm2 (?) but definatly not sm3 .

Forget the graphics card, anything faster than an FX5900 (yeah they are rubbish I'm not reccomending them!!!)

Just make sure you got 2GB of mem in there or you'll be STUFFED.

It'll jitter and jerk like no tomorrow, no matter what the settings if you don't have 2GB.

I ran BF2 at 1280x1024/All max settings except textures and lighting at medium on a 9800pro with 1GB ram. The game ran fine, about 45 fps average, which is playable imho. I only got a few seconds of stutter at the beginning but nothing too annoying.

That said my system was pretty optimised and I only had 17 processes running at startup. Ideally though, for super smooth gameplay at max details, high res and lots of AA/AF, you will definitely want an X1900/Geforce 7 generation card with 2GB system ram and preferably a C2D @ 3GHZ (for 50+ player servers).

Its alright I kept my current rig. I figured that to downgrade I'd probably have £100 in my back pocket, maybe less, and have a infinately inferior rig to boot. Current prices are crazily low for new gear now! 2gig of ddr pc3200 costs a fair bit on the bay at the moment.
