Does everyone front happiness...

If you are one of those people who are just happy on the outside that is terrible for 3 reasons:

1. You are deceiving others
2. You are being insincere
3. You can't fake real happiness

I'd rather that such people not pretend to be happy, but rather reflect on their face the mood they feel...

I've done both, for some clarity.

hrmm ok. For me i guess im a private person. Some things i only talk about with people i trust and know very well. I couldn't imagine saying those things to a complete stranger. Same with friends and work colleagues - talk about different stuff with both - i wouldnt blurt out all my personal problems to a work colleague for instance but hey different strokes for different folks i guess :)

what are people on here defining as ''alone''?

my week mon - fri i rarely see any of my friends after work anymore, the only two people i usually see on an evening are my parents but i am quite content to stick a mix on and do some college work, watch tv, play quake live etc til 10-10:30pm then go to bed and i'll do that until saturday and sunday when i'll go out and socialise with friends. i am quite content in my own company, especially if theres music involved

Oh dear, this is like reading something I've written! I feel the same as you.. it's really hard to try and be so upbeat sometimes. I do feel like everything is so pointless...like existence is defined by our achievements but we spend most of our lives doing things we don't want to be doing just to expire at the end of it all. How miserable. Often when I am doing something, I ask myself the point of it.. I'm not by any standards an emo and I have what I think most people would say is an enviable life. It's not depression...I just spend too long contemplating I suppose and fear the insignificance of my existence.

If it's any help to you.. what I find helps me a bit is keeping very very busy. Having lots of projects on, meeting friends regularly and achieving things...anything whether it's a new job or finishing a book.

I had no idea so many people felt this way...I suppose that in itself is slightly comforting :)

I often wonder if it's an issue of intellect, life would be so simple if I were an idiot. I supposedly have a very high IQ compared to the average person, I didn't realise it would taunt and torture me so.

Here's a quote by William Feather which might appeal to your viewpoint - "One of the indictments of civilizations is that happiness and intelligence are so rarely found in the same person.".

However I can't say I'd necessarily agree with it, I just like it as a glib quote. I don't think intellect has a direct and causal relationship on your happiness, there may be some correlation but even that I remain to be convinced of. It does also sound slightly conceited whether you intend it that way or not, just because you don't think someone is on your intellectual level doesn't automatically make them an idiot - they may well be gifted in other ways, you could be doing them a disservice in your assessment or maybe your opinion of your own intellect is overinflated.

Perhaps I just don't feel forfilled?

If you're that intelligent then you will be able to work out that life is what you make of it.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start doing things that make you enjoy life.

Ignorance is bliss :)

the less you know... The less to worry about

Not really lol, ignorance is not bliss, ignorance can be the cause of suffering and pain.

I think if you are smart there is more chance to be happy than if you are dim because for the dim life is confusing, stressful and difficult and therefore unhappy.

Life is about the moments where you sit back and think: this is perfect. Come on people, you know those moments, no things to do, nothing at all. Love it

Also life is about shagging as many beautiful woman as you can, going to as many kick ass clubs and holidays, driving a nice fast car, laughing- most definitely gotta have a lot of laughs, and then hopefully finding the woman of your dreams and making babies.. Im not a dad myself but I can imagine how a dad would feel when his first son or daughter is born. that moment is the ones worth living for..

Salamis take on the situation

I have great enthusiasm and joy for life - and I am blessed to say that - and I find it unfortunate that not everyone is cheerful and happy like me. I think the doom and gloom attitude and negativity of some people is just such a waste.

Amen to that brother.

I can spend up to 6months alone in the desert. I have a good education. I am also generally a very happy person.

I know what you mean, sometimes I just sit and think ... "Is this it ?"

Or I sit at work day dreaming about jacking it all in and going travelling and discovering things and going to places that fascinate me, chasing foreign girls and living on the edge of an adventurous and spontaneous lifestyle ...

Then I start thinking cynically again .... "Who would I go on this adventure with" .... "How long would it make me happy" ... rinse & repeat. :D

same here. i hate life and the last 10 years have been the same, every day, every month etc etc. 2007 started terrible, had a very good middle, and a awful end, and now im back into the normal rubbish that i just want to end, but dont know how. Id love to just disapear but i end up planning and planning and planning.... and never doing. Spontaneous would be fantastic, but seems it will never happen.

Really, in which case most people would run a mile from me! ;)

I AM SPARTA!

...am I allowed to say that? It made me feel slightly better if a little idiotic.

I guess for me it's a case of not giving a damn what others think of me, if you don't like me then it's your loss.

Of course the more I like and respect someone the more I'd like some reciprocation, but when it comes to work, most of my friends, family and the random strangers then the above pretty much stands.

In 'real life' I know very few people who actually dislike me. I’ve been described as everything and anything, from charismatic to enigmatic, but never hateful or loathed (perhaps only by the odd ex girl).

I like the quote but as you say it's a viewpoint and not necessarily fact.

Anyway, at what point did I suggest that having a low IQ made you an idiot? I didn't directly link either situation, I'm not calling people ungifted morons for being less intelligent than myself, you make it sound like I'm proclaiming to be a deity or something. I'm not even close.

I have however been formally tested and I know my own strengths, I've nothing to overinflate, my ego is in check.

Depression mixed with a superiority complex in my opinion, not the best of combinations really.

I'm not depressed, and quite frankly I don't have time for your opinion.

/tongue in cheek :)

See, you're persuading my down the path of humour; regardless of how poor, it's still humour.

I'm the same... although only for the last 6 months. Tbh though I think it'll continue.

If you think that way, then it will.......Forrest gump said 'life is not a box of chocolates' and He was right...sometimes it is though! you gotta make things happen in this world. everyone experiences some form of depression from time to time its part of our emotional being.

I hate fake happiness in people, its so patronising...im a very well balanced individual. I have a chip on both shoulders.:)

'Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly'

sometimes accepting the way we 'feel' is part of feeling better. accept it and move on!
